Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Bill Gates topped this year's rich list for a fourth consecutive year, with an estimated fortune of around $86bn. Forbes said about 40 per cent of the president's fortune is linked to Trump Tower and other Trump-owned properties near to it.
According to its methodology, Forbes bases its billionaires list on a "snapshot of wealth" taken on February 17 by valuing assets using stock prices and worldwide exchange rates.
Longtime investor and philanthropist Warren Buffett, the "Oracle of Omaha", was listed at No. 2 with a fortune of almost $77 billion.
Forbes reported Donald Trump's wealth dropped by about US$1b to US$3.5b over the past year.
