Comey Doesn't Say Much

Roger Stone

Most of Trump's golf course visits have taken place while he's spent the weekend at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida.

In a televised congressional hearing Monday, FBI Director James Comey made progress in condensing the narrative.

He may not say much at all - citing security reasons - so the speculation is likely to continue, damaging President Trump, but also the trust in the institutions which endeavour to keep America safe.

"Doing some jobs right requires being in the news every day, becoming a household name, enraging everyone", tweeted longtime Clinton aide Philippe Reines on Monday.

Based on "everything I have up to this morning - no evidence of collusion", by Trump's team and Moscow, Representative Devin Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told Fox News.

The FBI "is investigating the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election", Mr. Comey told a hearing by the House Intelligence Committee.

Little new information was unearthed during Monday's hearing before the Intelligence Committee; there have been numerous press reports in recent months citing anonymous officials about investigations into Trump.

"As with any counterintelligence investigation, this will also include an assessment of whether any crimes were committed", Comey's statement added.

He also wrote, "The Democrats made up and pushed the Russian story as an excuse for running a awful campaign".

Rep. Adam Schiff asked Comey if he thought the former president was involved, or if Obama could "unilaterally" authorize a wiretap against a USA citizen.

So far, there is no publicly available evidence to support the claim. Instead of probing his vague answers, they complacently accepted them before trailing off into the next series of unilluminating questions. And how reliable is what's now public?

If a USA person's name "has been unmasked and disseminated by intelligence community officials, would that leaking to the press hurt or help our ability to conduct national security matters?"

COMEY, asked about the tweet while he was still testifying: "I'm sorry, I haven't been following anybody on Twitter while I've been sitting here". John McCain, R-Ariz. NPR and other news organizations have refrained from reporting such details because of the unknown provenance of the dossier - but does Schiff's use of it in the public hearing indicate that at least some of the information has been verified? "So on a couple of occasions, he's actually conducted meetings there; he's actually had phone calls", Spicer said.

But while Comey agreed there was no evidence of collusion in a report prepared by the Federal Bureau of Investigation under the former director of national intelligence, this does not mean no evidence has since been discovered.

"James Clapper and others stated there is no evidence Potus colluded with Russian Federation".

However, the Department of Justice in larger public interest has given its consent to do so in this case, he said.

Thomas is in lineup after missing 2 games with knee injury
Keef Morris has missed the last two games for the Wizards with an illness and his status for tonight is also unknown. Washington 2-1 Both teams have held serve thus far as they get set for the final game in the season series tonight.

Comey said agents were working to find out if there was "any coordination between the campaign and Russia's efforts".

He included a timeline of interactions between the campaign and Russian Federation and questioned whether changes to the GOP platform, among other things, were "coincidences" or signs of collusion. The New York Times referred to Manafort in a story in February about us intelligence officials documenting many alleged connections between the Trump camp and the Russians.

"I think that was a fairly easy judgment for the (intelligence) community".

3. What did Trump know - and when did he know it?

Even if his advisers are ultimately cleared in the Russian Federation probe, as the White House insists they will be, the investigation could loom over Trump's presidency for months or even years, distracting from the ambitious domestic agenda he's vowed to enact. Why let the hearing become a referendum on Trump's tweeting?

Trump never retreats and never apologizes and so far has mounted a brash defense.

The Democrats made up and pushed the Russian story as an excuse for running a bad campaign.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer ripped the idea of collusion.

Some of Trump's defenders said the impact of Comey's testimony could easily be overtaken if the White House is disciplined enough to marshall its agenda, as well as Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, through Congress.

The testimony overall was clearly damaging to the White House.

There are multiple investigations into Russia's actions during 2016.

The FBI director said he has no information that would back up the president's tweets as he testified alongside National Security Agency head Michael Rogers before the House Intelligence Committee Monday.

Will Russian President Vladimir Putin turn out to have invested wisely or to have been the dog that caught the vehicle?

Mr Manafort issued a statement on Monday defending himself against suggestions he played a part in Russia's efforts to interfere with the USA presidential campaign.

And American military deployments in Eastern Europe, including of armored units along NATO's frontier with Russian Federation and of ships and aircraft in the Black Sea, have continued.

I realized that when it comes to American politics, I am a complete naïf.
