Narada sting case: CBI registers preliminary enquiry

Narada Sting

Mamata Banerjee had dismissed Narada sting as part of a "larger political conspiracy".

The top court will on Tuesday hear Roy and another TMC leader Suvendu Adhikary's petitions.

Two petitioners who had filed PILs that led to the high court order moved caveats to ensure they would be heard when the appeals come up.

The three senior lawyers argued before a Bench of Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justices DY Chandrachud and SK Kaul, which refused to interfere with the CBI inquiry directed by the Calcutta High Court.

The court ordered that the CBI pick up the case papers in 24 hours and get the preliminary inquiry started within 72 hours.

Proposed USDA cuts worry Iowa lawmakers
Specific USDA areas targeted for cuts include its statistical capabilities and staffing at its county-level service centers. Hladik says many parts of rural America did not recover fully from the Great Recession that started almost a decade ago.

On Monday, the CBI had registered preliminary enquiry in connection with the Narada sting tapes. If it finds that prima facie it is crime, the agency registers the FIR.

The Calcutta high court on Friday said that the Narada sting operation will be probed by the CBI.

The controversy erupted in March a year ago when Narada News portal uploaded a series of videos purportedly showing a number of high-profile Trinamool leaders, including former and present ministers, MPs and state lawmakers, receiving money in exchange of favours to a fictitious company.

The CBI has also taken into its possession, a laptop and the spy cameras that were used by Narada to conduct the sting operation. The bench noted that a report by the central forensic science laboratory (CFSL) in Chandigarh, had said that the tapes were untampered.

It said that given the persons against whom allegations have been made are ministers, MPs and other senior leaders from the state, it would be just to direct the CBI, and not a state agency, to conduct a PE, the committee said.
