Patriots Waive Preseason Standout Running Back Tyler Gaffney

Rich Graessle Icon Sportswire

Tyler Gaffney, a running back who showed promise in the preseason but couldn't get on the field for the regular season for the Patriots previous year, has been cut loose. Gaffney was re-signed to the practice squad in October and spent a few weeks on the active roster, but didn't appear in any games. Monday's decision to release him now simply gives him additional time to hopefully find a new landing spot.

His injuries issues began prior to the start of his rookie season in 2014 with the Carolina Panthers.

A sixth-round draft pick out of Stanford in 2014, Gaffney has yet to appear in an National Football League game. He first joined the team in July 2014 when they claimed him off waivers, just for him to be placed on injured reserve for both the 2014 and 2015 seasons.
