White House says underfire Trump campaign chair had very limited role

GCHQ issued a rare public denial over the Trump Tower spying claims

The analyst's claim that GCHQ had helped former president Barack Obama bug Trump Tower was cited last week by White House press secretary Sean Spicer, sparking a diplomatic incident.

Trump's support - calling Napolitano a "very talented lawyer" - came after Napolitano went on Fox and repeatedly relayed information from anonymous sources about former President Obama using the British to spy on Trump.

Andrew Napolitano has been pulled from the Fox News Channel, a source at the organisation said. Shortly before inauguration day, Napolitano had a one-on-one meeting with Trump about Supreme Court nomination possibilities.

"Obviously there's been discussion of Paul Manafort, who played a very limited role for a very limited amount of time", Spicer said.

A blogger and former Central Intelligence Agency analyst says he was a source for an uncorroborated claim made on Fox News about supposed spying at Trump Tower - but he says he didn't mean to be.

FBI Director James Comey confirmed for the first time Monday that the agency is investigating both Russian interference in last year's presidential election and Moscow's possible collusion with the Trump campaign. Instead of using US intelligence services, Napolitano said, Obama used Britain's Government Communications Headquarters, or GCHQ, to ensure there were "no American fingerprints on this".

25 passengers, crew rescued from vessel near San Clemente Island
The Navy crew arrived at 4:30 a.m. and began removing water from the fishing vessel, then turned the task over to the Sockeye . Truline made it to the Newport Beach (Calif.) Shipyard hours later. "We were able to keep up with the flooding", Simpson said.

By our count, there were 30 times between August 2011 and August 2016 that Trump tweeted or retweeted criticisms about then-President Obama golfing.

Spicer said he was referring to people like Carter Page, an early foreign policy adviser on the Trump campaign. "We're not casting judgment on that".

Spicer was asked Monday at a White House press conference how Trump's golf playing is "any different", from Obama's.

GCHQ made an extremely rare public denial, calling the claims "utterly ridiculous", and saying they "should be ignored". "I just wish he used it productively to make deals with Congress!"

Napolitano's report, which appeared in a column on the Fox web site, comes after Trump alleged in a March 4 series of tweets that Obama had "wire tapped" Trump's phones.

At that point, Fox News tried to distance itself from Napolitano's commentary, with anchor Shepard Smith saying the network could not confirm what Napolitano had said on "Fox and Friends".
