Aaron Hernandez's cousin shocked by former football star's death

Prison officials say "Hernandez hanged himself utilizing a bed sheet that he attached to his cell window" in the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center.

The former Patriot was taken to UMass Memorial-Health Alliance Hospital and pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m. ET.

Prison officials said Hernandez was in a single cell in the general population and wasn't on suicide watch, and in the wake of his death, one lawmaker said there needs to be changes made to the current system. Bob Ward of Fox 25 News in Boston quoted a source who said that Hernandez's body was found with "John 3:16" written in "red blood marker" on his forehead.

Murphy's speculation comes after Hernandez's lawyer Jose Baez expressed similar speculation and launched a private investigation into the former National Football League star's death. He attempted to block the door of his cell from the inside by "jamming the door with various items", authorities added. "Those who love and care about him are heartbroken and determined to find the truth surrounding his untimely death".

An investigation will be overseen by Worcester District Attorney Joseph Early Jr.'s office and a medical examiner will conduct an autopsy at its Boston facility.

Last week, Hernandez was acquitted of all but a gun charge in a lengthy trial in the 2012 shooting deaths of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu.

North Korean Nuclear Showdown
On Sunday, Mr Trump wrote on Twitter that China was working with the U.S. on "the North Korea problem". Mr Lu added that tension was already high in the region before the latest comments from Pyongyang.

Apparently, though, Baez and Hernandez's family aren't the only ones who don't believe that he took his own life.

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey, who is Hernandez's friend from the University of Florida, was also shocked by the news, posting on Instagram: "Today my heart hurts as I got the worse news I could have imagined". The judge sentenced him to an additional four to five years in prison, separate from his life sentence, for that conviction.

Hernandez was convicted of first-degree murder in the 2013 death of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez's lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hernandez's death came on the same day the New England Patriots visited President Donald Trump and the White House to commemorate the team's Super Bowl victory in February.

"I knew we had raised doubt throughout that case".

Prosecutors suggested Lloyd may have been killed to keep him quiet about the 2012 Boston killings.
