BMW HP4 Race debuts in China

BMW HP4 Race debuts in China

With the new HP4 RACE BMW Motorrad presents a purebred racing machine in a production run of 740 units. Production for the limited edition is fixed at 750 units.

The HP4 Race has been built purely for the race track, and will come with a 215 hp World Superbike spec engine. Torque too has risen from 112.5 Nm to 119.3 Nm at 10,500rpm.

In order to achieve these numbers, BMW's engineers made modifications to the standard 999 cc, in-line four from the S 1000 RR that include connecting rods made of high-strength forged steel and a lighter crankshaft.

Close-ratio racing gearbox with adapted transmission ratios.

Also included are a programmable pit lane speed limiter and launch control for flawless starts, all controlled via a 2D dashboard with a 2D logger giving you transferable data memory.

Electronic control, assistance systems, weight-optimised on-board electrical system is accessed on the 2D dashboard with 2D logger (transferable data memory).

Jackets push it to OT but can't contain Crosby
Well, that was child's play compared to what the 22-year-old Guentzel did Sunday night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. And I just told them: I just want them to be able to put that god damn radio on after tonight's game at 10 o'clock.

On the suspension side of things, Ohlins does the job, with an FGR300 Superbike World Cup fork coupled with an Ohlins SD052 steering damper in front, and an Ohlins TTX 36 GP absorber at the back.

The abundant use of carbon fiber puts the wet weight of the S 1000 RR-based HP4 Race at a svelte 171 kilograms (377 lb) with fuel on board (146 kg dry). Weighing 171 kilograms when fully fuelled and road ready, the new HP4 RACE is even lighter than the factory racing bikes now used in the Superbike World Championship and is only slightly above the MotoGP factory racers in terms of weight. The front and rear wheels are also made of the same material, meaning they are 30 percent lighter than alloy forged ones. Coated titanium pistons, Brembo GP4 PR monoblock aluminium brake calipers, and braking system are also borrowed from race bikes.

The fuel tank in the BMW HP4 Race is made of aluminium.

Carbon fibre main frame in monocoque construction weighing just 7.8 kilograms.

Paint finish in BMW HP Motorsport colours. The HP4 Race shows its competition orientation with other items such as adjustable eight-position footrests, adjustable handlebars, seat height adjustment, adjustable steering head angle and swingarm centre of rotation, reverse shift pattern and up-and-down quickshifter. That probably doesn't mean red-light racing.

Braking duties are handled by Brembo GP4 PR monoblock brake calipers. Of course, there's also wheelie control, launch control, a pit lane limiter, and all the other standard stuff that's now expected on superbikes. Coated titanium pistons and single-piece aluminium calipers with chemically nickel-plated surface make for what is now the very best combination of materials available. Wide-ranging set-up options for different track layouts and road surface conditions are provided by the audibly perceptible Dynamic Traction Control controlled by ignition cut, Engine Brake EBR and Wheelie Control.
