Aaron Hernandez, former New England Patriots football player, was found hanged to death in his prison cell in MA early today, the State Corrections Department reports.
Nearly 12 hours after Aaron Hernandez was pronounced dead, more details are coming out surrounding what happened before he committed suicide in his jail cell using a bed sheet at the Souza Baranowski Correctional Center in Shirley, Massachusetts.
Officers immediately began to render life-saving techniques and Hernandez was taken to UMass Leominster where he was pronounced dead at 4:07 a.m.
Investigators said Hernandez was in a single cell in a general population housing unit when he was found.
Prison officials said Wednesday that the investigation into Hernandez's suicide is ongoing.
Town property records show it was sold outright to Hernandez for a dollar in November 2013, several months after he was arrested for the murder of Odin Lloyd.
He died nearly exactly two years after he was sentenced to life without parole for murdering a semi-pro football player in 2013 and five days after he was acquitted of double murder in a separate Boston killing in 2012.
There were signs in one National Football League scouting report before Hernandez was even drafted: "Self-esteem is quite low; not well-adjusted emotionally, not happy, moods unpredictable, not stable, doesn't take much to set him off, but not an especially jumpy guy", the scout wrote in his report.
The statement says, Hernandez "was found unresponsive in his cell shortly after 3 a.m. today". An autopsy will be performed by the medical examiner's office in Boston to determine his cause and manner of death, according to the Worcester District Attorney's Office.
Local media, citing unnamed law enforcement sources, reported on Thursday that Hernandez's body was found with a reference to a Bible verse written on his forehead, perhaps in blood.
Alonso to skip Monaco to race Indy 500
Watching F1 racer Fernando Alonso pass on the Monaco Grand Prix to race in this year's Indianapolis 500 got Hamilton thinking in broader terms.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life."Just days after Hernandez was acquitted in a separate murder case, his friends, family and his legal team were searching for an explanation.
The question of why Hernandez would end his own life might go unanswered.
Hernandez's longtime friend, Miami Dolphin Mike Pouncey, posted on Instagram that he had spoken to Hernandez a day before his death, calling him "my brother".
Hernandez was acquitted last week in connection with a 2012 double murder case.
So instead of mocking him or shaking your head, use Hernandez's life to look at your own house for signs of early trouble.
Hernandez had been expected to appeal his sentence of life in prison without possibility of parole for the 2013 murder.
He had pleaded not guilty to killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in a drive-by shooting in 2012.
Earlier in the week, cameras spied Hernandez blowing kisses to the young daughter he fathered with fiancee Shayanna Jenkins.
Baez said Thursday that he remains skeptical of the conclusion that Hernandez's death was a suicide. She says the body will be shipped to another location, but she declined to say where.
