'Fed up' Redknapp returns to manage Birmingham

The 70-year-old former Tottenham and QPR boss takes over following the resignation of Gianfranco Zola and with Blues three points above the Sky Bet Championship relegation zone.

Gianfranco Zola resigned yesterday at the Championship club after overseeing a bad run of form that yielded only two wins in 22 games since taking over four months ago.

The Italian replaced Gary Rowett with the club outside the play-offs only on goal difference.

Birmingham are now 20th in the championship and sit only three points above the relegation zone.

Redknapp has been involved in football since 1958, and has managed Bournemouth, West Ham, Southampton, Tottenham, QPR and Jordan, and has also taken in two stints at Portsmouth, where he won the FA Cup.

'Birmingham is a proper football club but they are in a precarious position.

"We're going to have to win one of the three games at least".

Blues' next game is at local rivals Aston Villa on Sunday.

"I am sorry because I came here with a lot of expectations and the results haven't been good". All I can do is try and install a bit of confidence in them, and a bit of belief. I went over, met them at 9.30 p.m. and by 9.45 p.m. It is my first day, I will meet the lads, I haven't seen them play, I haven't got a magic wand, that's for the sure.

"My wife said to me 'are you mad or what?' but I get fed up sitting around doing nothing".

"[It will be a] tough game, but players will be up for it", he said. It is not going to be easy but it is a challenge and I look forward to it.

Zola had controversially replaced Gary Rowett and Birmingham City's subsequent downturn in form sees them now in 20th place, just three points above the relegation zone.

I know this isn't directly Newcastle United related but Harry Redknapp has had plenty to say about us over the years.
