Man vowed to kill white men

Fresno shooting Rampage started with slaying last week police say

"We don't believe it's a terrorist act", Police Chief Jerry Dyer told reporters about the Tuesday rampage led by suspect Kori Ali Muhammad.

FRESNO, California- Three men were killed Tuesday all by the same gunman.

Muhammad released a profanity-filed rap album weeks before launching his rampage, in which he muses on black power and killing "white devils".

Around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Muhammad fired 17 shots in about three minutes, Dyer said. So he vowed to eliminate as many white men as he could.

Muhammad is facing four counts of murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, officials said. One witness who heard those gunshots said he rushed out of house, which is just a few doors down, and saw one of the victims drop to the ground.

Lemburg, who for years lived as 65-year-old Bill Robertson, was a special agent with the USAF Office of Special Investigations when he walked away from his base in Philadelphia in 1972. Dyer said Muhammad confessed to having shot Williams "because he felt that Williams had disrespected him".

Muhammad did not make any references to race during last week's attack, according to Dyer, who said investigators will need time to determine the exact motive in the shootings. From there, Dyer said, he watched police investigate his crime scene. He had been associated with gangs but was not a validated member, police said. He climbed down the next day and hid out while performing what he called Voodoo rituals.

Muhammad told detectives that he is Muslim but hadn't been to mosque in 20 years and prays to numerous gods, Dyer said.

Dyer said he doesn't think the suspect's desire to kill stemmed from religious views, but rather racist views.

Says Chief Dyer, "If in fact he's lashing out at white people - white males in this case - that would constitute a hate crime".

Muhammad walked to Fresno's Tower District - a bustling area full of shops, businesses and restaurants.

He says Martin Luther King "wanted to hug their hands, and get along with them, and lick their feet and they still killed him".

"And that's what he set out to do".

Dryer added that one of the shooting victims was driven to police in a truck belonging to Pacific Gas and Electric Company. The suspect noticed the driver was Hispanic, and the passenger was white. The gun may have been picked up by someone else, Dyer said.

Zackary Randalls, a 34-year-old father of two young children, was killed. The 39-year-old was crying, but she just thought it was because he was leaving town. His attorney said that Muhammad had "paranoia" and thought the justice system and his defense attorney were conspiring against him, court papers said.

Muhammad dropped shell casings and reloaded his gun before setting of to Catholic Charities on North Fulton Street in Fresno, where he shot and killed a man he encountered in the parking lot, Dyer said Tuesday. Police say Williams was unarmed.

Muhammad shot Jackson twice and ran off, ditching his gun, which still hasn't been recovered, Dyer said.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer said Wednesday that the carnage began as Kori Ali Muhammad killed a security guard at a motel Thursday.

Dyer says Muhammad claims he did so out of respect for the officer and to show the courage of conviction for his alleged crimes and the reasoning behind them. "At the same time, he said he was not a coward".

He described his brother as a amusing and intelligent man. At times, the suspect laughed while detailing the killings to police. Muhammad had gone there to meet a woman, and he argued with security who asked him to leave.
