Mixing Business with Presidency, Ivanka Trump Sees Profits in China

Ivanka Trump right walks with her husband Jared Kushner senior adviser to the president to a news conference with President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the White House in W

But there's simply no denying her father's upset victory in the 2016 election lit a fire under the 35-year-old business mogul.

The brand, which is still owned by Ivanka, who now also holds an official White House role, not only hit record sales this year, but saw its United States imports, most of which came from China, increase 166% in 2016.

Gorelick said her client would recuse herself from certain policy matters, like trade agreements, that are specific enough to affect her line of clothing and accessories. Most of the trademark applications were filled out before Trump took an official position in her father's White House.

Ivanka Trump's company won provisional approval from the Chinese government for three new trademarks on the same day she dined with Chinese Prime Minister Xi Jinping at Mar-a-lago.

Despite boycotts and several stores limiting her merchandise, Ivanka's brand is flourishing, according to the AP.

The Associated Press reports Ivanka product imports surged an estimated 166 percent a year ago, and nearly all of them were from China.

March 3, 2017: Ivanka Trump is photographed disembarking from Air Force One in a stripe asymmetrical skirt from her own collection, available on Lyst.com for $45. Overall, Ivanka Trump Marks LLC, her trademarking business, has filed 173 foreign trademarks in 21 countries, as well as in Hong Kong and the European Union, in little more than a decade, according to the Times analysis. "I can tell you that they will never succeed". Unlike President Trump, his daughter is subject to federal rules that prohibit her from participating in matters in which she has a financial interest.

It's worth emphasizing that just as Donald Trump does not oversee management of the private-sector ventures he owns, Ivanka Trump is not managing her business, transferring control to a family-run trust.

Fox News addresses O'Reilly exit on air
Prior to his termination, O'Reilly was "under a bit of fire internally" and no longer had the type of power he once held at Fox. In the wake of the Times report , two more women have come forward to accuse O'Reilly of harassment, one anonymously.

Business is tricky when you mix it with politics, that's for sure!

Any dealings she makes under her new position which benefits her or her family's business poses unsafe potential conflicts of interest. Trademarks can be used to expand a business or defend against copycats. They are also covered by the Constitution's emoluments clause barring federal officials from accepting "any present, emolument, office or title of any kind whatever from any king, prince or foreign state". She also gave the responsibility of her design business to the president of the brand, Abigail Klem.

Klem later added that the company has seen a "surge in trademark filings by unrelated third parties trying to capitalize on the name".

Public records show that the company has more than 180 trademarks, some of them yet to receive approval, around the globe.

Today's defamation stems from the popularity of her brand in China.

Former White House ethics lawyer Norman Eisen has raised questions over potential conflict of interest issues for Ivanka and her husband, senior presidential advisor Jared Kushner in their dealings with China.

"Ivanka has so many China ties and conflicts, yet she and Jared appear deeply involved in China contacts and policy".

Earlier this year, Ivanka resigned from all management and operational roles with her brand, but she still owns the label and stands to profit greatly from her own tremendous popularity in China.
