Tesla recalls 53000 of its Model S, Model X cars

Tesla recalls 53000 of its Model S, Model X cars

The problem that Tesla has taken note of stems from a manufacturing fault with its electronic parking brakes on some of its sedans and SUVs, according to an email Tesla sent out to auto owners.

The auto maker said there had been no accidents or injuries due to the issue.

The recall affects approximately 53,000 vehicles, but Tesla said that it estimates only about 2-5% of these cars contain the problematic gear.

The Tesla cars will need to have its brakes replaced, a process that should take about 45 minutes.

U.S. carrier heading toward Korean Peninsula
Japan agreed with the United States on Tuesday to discuss a bilateral framework for trade and investment rules, as U.S. Pence told the ship's captain that he had spoken to President Donald Trump, and Trump "wishes he were here".

Update: The post has been changed to clarify that the number of vehicles Tesla believes could be affected by the parking gear is around 2 percent. About 31,000 of those are located in the United States, and all affected vehicles carry build dates between February and October 2016. Owners with potentially faulty cars will be notified by email with details on the recall.

Being stuck in Park sure sounds better than being unable to keep the auto from rolling when shut off.

"However, in order to be overly cautious, we are going to be proactively replacing these parts to ensure that no issues arise", Tesla said in the email to owners. There have been no reports of the parking brake system failing to hold a parked vehicle or failing to stop a vehicle in an emergency as a result of this condition, and this part has no impact on the car's regular braking systems. According to Tesla, the vehicles were manufactured between February and October 2016 and involves a gear in electric parking brakes that may not been manufactured properly. We will soon be sending you an official recall notice by mail, which will include information on how to have your parking brakes replaced.
