United Airlines changes policy so crew can't displace seated passengers

If a passenger has to be bumped, that must happen prior to boarding. American Airlines' conditions of carriage say it won't involuntarily remove passengers who've already boarded to seat a different customer. The 30 percent of respondents who said they hadn't heard about the airline recently were split almost 50-50 when it came to identical United or American flights.

Video of the episode went viral, sparking calls for greater scrutiny of airlines from politicians. "This is one of our initial steps in a review of our policies in order to deliver the best customer experience", said United spokesperson Maggie Schmerin in a statement. The airline would not disclose its current payment limit.

Even when the American flight was $66 more expensive and had a layover in Cleveland, 44 percent of those who had heard about United still choose American. A spokesman confirmed the changes.

United faced backlash after Dr. David Dao was dragged from a flight April 9 when he refused to give up his seat. Gate agents can offer $2,000.

Dao's lawyer, Thomas Demetrio, said United added insult to injury by also losing his client's luggage. The case, however, highlighted the common practice by airlines to sell more tickets than available seats.

At least two other airlines have changed or emphasised policies. "I have committed to our customers and our employees that we are going to fix what's broken so this never happens again". "That takes limitless forms and is always tailored to unique circumstances".

Britain to head to the polls on 8 June
If the election is approved Wednesday, Parliament will be dissolved on May 2, sparking nearly six weeks of campaigning. An official statement from the broadcaster said: "ITV will hold a leaders' debate as we did in 2010 and 2015".

Dao said he was a doctor and had to get home to patients. He said it's all about how airlines manage overbooking situations and doing it well.

'We thought not a big deal, it's not like we are trying to jump up into a first-class seat.

Munoz himself came in for heavy criticism for his response early in the crisis in which he appeared to put partial blame for the incident on the passenger, saying in a note to employees that he had "defied" authorities and "compounded" the incident.

Videos taken by other passengers show a now-suspended security officer with the Chicago Department of Aviation leaning over to grab Dao and pulling him up.

United Airlines had a catastrophic past week.
