Ahmadinejad planning presidential run

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani (L) is handed tissues after registering to run for re-election at the interior ministry in the capital Tehran on April 14, 2017.

Rouhani's moderate supporters are in coalition with the reformist camp, whose presidential candidate Mohammad Reza Aref withdrew in Rouhani's favor in the 2013 election.

Democracy and democratic elections are attainable by reference to the people's vote and respect to the law, he told reporters. Although Rouhani undertook a certain level of outreach to the worldwide community as evidenced by his pursuit of an agreement over the Iranian nuclear program, his administration has followed the rest of the regime in simply dismissing the well-founded global criticisms of the country's human rights record.

Political analysts said they expected Iranian voters to rally around Rouhani even though many complain that they have still seen few economic benefits from the lifting of sanctions. The panel also declared Ahmadinejad won the 2009 election despite widespread fraud allegations.

However, Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that the Supreme Leader never barred him from rerunning for the presidency.

A bill to impose new sanctions on Iran over ballistic missile launches and other non-nuclear activities has been delayed in the U.S. Senate due to concerns about the presidential election.

No Barcelona comeback as Juventus reaches CL semis
If they lose to Real Madrid again on Sunday, it would leave them six points behind their title rivals having played a game more. Barcelona down but not out and need a big win tonight against Juventus .

The May 19 polls are widely seen as a referendum on the landmark 2015 nuclear deal for the Islamic republic to curb its uranium enrichment in exchange for the lifting of crippling global sanctions, and are expected to be a battle between reformists and hardliners.

"The nuclear deal is a legal document and a pact".

Also in the same month, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani underlined his country's continued progress and advancement in its defense and missile program, saying that the country is strongly opposed to foreign interference.

"The problem about the nuclear deal is how they advertised it".

More than 120 prospective candidates submitted their names as candidates on the first day of registration Tuesday, including six women and seven clerics.

There's been a lot of will-he-won't-he about the 55-year-old Tehran mayor this year, but he finally registered on Saturday for his third run at the presidency. He began as a favourite of the ayatollahs, but during his second term he had a turbulent relationship with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader, who asked him not to run for President again. The Aradan native proceeded to register anyway, and although the Ayatollah has the final say it does not look good in terms of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's respect for authority.
