California gunman to appear in court on murder count

Police Fresno gunman targeting whites chose 3 men at random

Chief Jerry Dyer on Wednesday explained to members of the media a second-by-second breakdown of the rampage that left three men dead, including playing recordings of the gunshots captured on police tracking equipment. "Kori Muhammad is not a terrorist, but he is a racist", Fresno Police Dept. "You don't get friends like that every day", Gilbert said.

He is expected to be charged with four counts of first-degree murder- one for each of Tuesday's three victims plus the slaying of a white Motel 6 security guard who was killed last week.

"What he told our detectives last night, was that once he saw he was wanted for the murder he was not going to go down for shooting a security guard for disrespecting him". He told investigators that he did not like white men and that "white people were responsible for keeping the black people down".

Muhammad, 39, told investigators he is Muslim but prays to seven different gods.

As Williams lay mortally wounded, Muhammad ran to a nearby 7-Eleven and climbed on top of the roof. Dyer said Muhammad confessed to having shot Williams "because he felt that Williams had disrespected him". Muhammad had gone there to meet a woman, and he argued with security who asked him to leave.

Muhammad shot Gassett in the chest, Dyer said. The suspect then threw himself on the ground and surrendered. "Sorry, chief", Dyer reported Muhammad as saying.

He also fired one shot at a vehicle before realizing it contained Hispanic women.

"It was just a senseless act of action that didn't need to happen", Wagner said. The gunman who killed 13 people in a terror attack at Fort Hood, Texas, screamed "Allahu akbar" as he opened fire in 2009, and the phrase is often tweeted by social media accounts sympathetic to Islamic State and other terror groups. He was allowed to speak to his mother and told her not to worry about him because his "magic" is strong. Carl Williams told her he loved her, too.

FRESNO, California- Three men were killed Tuesday all by the same gunman.

A coroner has released the names of three men gunned down during a shooting rampage in Fresno.

Dyer confirmed that Muhammad yelled "Allahu Akbar" ("God is great" in Arabic) as he was being loaded into a police vehicle Tuesday, but he said the suspect told investigators that he hadn't attended a mosque in at least 25 years and was a practitioner of voodoo who prays to seven gods, primarily Aguna.

PG&E employee Zackary Randalls, 34, and Catholic Charities clients Mark Gassett, 37, and David Martin Jackson, 58, had the misfortune of crossing paths with crazed gunman Kori Ali Muhammad in Fresno.

Muhammad starting running, until he saw a police auto, which was there within minutes.

The attorney who represented Muhammad in that case did not return a call for comment Tuesday.

South Korea on heightened alert as isolated North readies for army celebration
South Korea's acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn called on the military and security agencies to maintain vigilance. US Ambassador Nikki Haley separately stressed that the onus was on North Korea to prevent an escalation.

In an online video from 2015, Muhammad said he joined a gang at 9 years old and the Black Liberation Movement at age 14.

Randalls was in a training program for Pacific Gas & Electric and doing a ride-along Tuesday when he was gunned down.

Fresno, Calif., Police Chief Jerry Dyer glances over at a photo of victim Zackary Randalls during a news conference at the Fresno Police Department on Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

Kori Ali Muhammad was in a one-man war with the world.

Randalls was an exceptional father and "loved his two kids with everything that he had", longtime friend Eddie Valencia said.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark's family, as well as all of the families of the victims from yesterday's tragedy", the district said.

Monique Skinner tells The Fresno Bee (http://bit.ly/2osozFS ) that she was outside her apartment when she flipped the victim over and he gasped and died.

The final victim was shot dead in the auto park of a charity building. The 25-year-old was shot and killed while responding to an incident at the motel Muhammad was visiting. He re-iterated that Muhammad says he was motivated by a hatred of white men and not religion.

Dyer believes that race was the motivation behind the killings on Tuesday as well as Williams.

The Latest on a fatal shooting in downtown Fresno, California (all times local): 8:35 a.m.

Muhammad admitted the killings to officers as they arrested him, according to the chief.

The rambling profile includes militant and apocalyptic language and repeated demands to "let black people go".

Muhammad walked a couple of blocks and came upon a white man whose identity hasn't been made public. He shot and the men scattered. They had no known connection to each other or to Muhammad. Finally, he fired in the direction of a bus stop where he spotted three white males. Dyer says he believes Kori Ali Muhammad, who is black, was "proud" of what he did.

Muhammad faces a maximum of life in prison if convicted of the two charges filed against him on Thursday.
