Chaffetz leaves door open to not finish term in House

"I trust you to find the best person to serve", Chaffetz wrote. Chaffetz says he won't for re-election or any other offi.

Republican Congressman Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss Presi...

In an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, Chaffetz reiterated that he wants to spend more time with his family. "The president, under the law, is exempt from conflict of interest laws", the congressman told the audience.

"I don't know exactly where these winds are going to take me", he said. "But it's not required by law".

Office of Government Ethics Director Walter Shaub Jr. spoke to NPR on Monday and called on Chaffetz to do more. At a town hall in February, Chaffetz was essentially booed for an hour straight, and a new billboard in his hometown of Provo questions the congressman's reluctance to investigate Russia's meddling in US elections.

The Democratic National Committee said it was sending Chairman Tom Perez and Vermont independent Sen.

"That is absolutely wrong, wrong, wrong".

Murray loses to Ramos-Vinolas at Monte Carlo Masters
Former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka was also routed, with the Swiss third seed losing to Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay 6-4, 6-4. Rafael Nadal completely outclassed birthday boy Alexander Zverev 6-1 6-1 to storm into the Monte-Carlo Masters quarter-finals.

News of Chaffetz's plans was first reported by BuzzFeed.

Before D.C. residents rejoice too much, though, remember that our lack of statehood means we're still at the whim of whoever replaces Chaffetz.

As political site Red State mentioned, these URLs offer more evidence that a White House run is a possibility. Chaffetz proudly refused to use campaign funds to feed state delegates, as is traditional in the process of currying favor.

After House Speaker John Boehner abruptly resigned in the fall of 2015, Chaffetz mounted a bid for speaker of the House against Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, but his effort failed to gain major traction.

Chaffetz's district, a large swath of Utah southeast of Salt Lake City including Provo, voted 78 percent for Mitt Romney in 2012. The Utah lawmaker earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Brigham Young University and played football at the school.

Chaffetz's staff in Washington, D.C., and in Utah did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Chaffetz entered office in 2009 and his indefinite departure from politics would leave Utah's 3rd District up for grabs. "I have long advocated public service should be for a limited time and not a lifetime or full career", Chaffetz said in a statement posted to his official Facebook page. They argued that he was shielding a president of his own party after relentlessly investigating Democrat Hillary Clinton last fall for her email scandal.
