Corbyn's Labour faces 'decade' in wilderness, says Nun

Now that lawmakers have approved the election, Parliament will be dissolved on May 2.

Conservative Party chairman, Patrick McLoughlin, believes Jeremy Corbyn's refusal to rule out a second Brexit referendum is "yet more evidence of chaos" from the Labour leader.

For Michael Hewson, an analyst at CMC Markets, the elections could also help May by "diluting the influence of the more extreme elements of her own party on the Brexit process".

Just hours after former Labour MP Bob Marshall-Andrews announced plans to defect to the Lib Dems ahead of the General Election in June, Tim Farron's party could receive another boost as two unnamed Tory MPs look set to join the Brexit-bashing party.

The SNP stood apart from the other mainstream parties, accusing Ms May of political opportunism in the timing of the vote, but did not actively block it, choosing instead to abstain.

Speaking during First Minister's Questions at Holyrood Nicola Sturgeon said Labour was "unelectable and utterly useless" in opposition and had no chance of winning on June 8.

Mr Corbyn said Conservative cuts to education budgets would only make the problem worse.

May told The Sun newspaper that if Britain were still negotiating with the bloc in the run-up to a national election, "the Europeans might have seen that as a time of weakness when they could push us". The issue of Brexit was brought up by reporters during question time, and the 67-year-old's answer on the subject was far different from the opinion he previously voiced during the end of 2016, when the matter had become a seriously problematic one between Theresa May and parliament.

"It is the rigged economy the Tories are protecting that Labour is committed to challenging; we will not let the elite extract wealth from the pockets of ordinary working people any longer", insisted the Labour leader.

H-1B Not Immigration But Trade, Services Issue
The order effectively raises the bar for foreign guest workers used by USA and Indian companies to do work in the US. Baglay said the executive order has to be "acted upon".

Curtice said that if May retains the 16 point lead she now holds across an average of polls, she will increase her majority from 40 seats to around 100.

"We respect the result of the referendum, but there still has to be an economic relationship with Europe".

With Ms May seen winning a new five-year mandate and boosting her majority in parliament by perhaps 100 seats, the pound held close to six-and-a-half month highs on hopes she may be able to clinch a smoother, more phased departure from the European Union and minimise damage to the United Kingdom economy.

The Party has been facing the hard task of securing votes from those who did not vote for Brexit in last year's referendum.

Labour was not the only party to lose MPs ahead of the election.

"If people in Scotland want protection against the Tory government, if people in Scotland want an effective, strong opposition...they will only get it from the SNP", she added.

She had also backed the Remain camp in the June 23 referendum, but kept a low profile throughout a polarising campaign.

The Conservatives have had a commanding lead over Labour for months, but a new YouGov poll for The Times on Thursday put them on 48%, double Labour's showing of 24%.
