Dad: Fresno suspect blamed whites for drug use

A spokeswoman for the Fresno County District Attorney's Office said Muhammad would be charged in connection with the fatal gun spree after police investigators submit final reports in the case.

Despite the suspect yelling "Allahu Akbar", Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said the shootings had "nothing to do with terrorism".

Surrounded by candles and balloons, family and community members gathered near downtown Fresno to remember Mark James Gassett, one of three men killed during Tuesday's rampage shooting.

He first thought the shooting was gang-related, but then he noticed the bag of groceries near the body. The third was at a bus stop with a friend, waiting for a ride home.

Police have said Muhammad was bent on killing as many white men as possible when he gunned down the three men in downtown Fresno and fired at another, who was missed by the bullets.

"That's what he set out to do that day". He was 34-years-old and left behind two preschoolers and a wife.

"He wouldn't want people to be divided by this", Valencia said. "There were no boundaries with race, religions, beliefs, with anything". "(He will be remembered) as a good, loving person and a good father to his kids". "He was a stand-up guy".

Muhammad also shot Mark Gassett, 37, of Fresno, who had just picked up groceries at a Catholic Charities building. It was one of his fondest memories of being with Gassett, he said. "How do you explain that to two small children?"

"He would give his shirt off his back for anybody", she told the newspaper. Police say Muhammad, who is black, singled out white victims and killed them at random.

Witnesses said they saw a man carrying a large handgun, who reloaded it several times between shots.

The shooting began around 10:45 local time near the headquarters for Catholic Charities.

The Trump administration has said military action remains an option for dealing with North Korea. Bergeson, 7th Air Force commander, told Yonhap News.

And David Jackson was also gunned down in that charity's parking lot.

"I was too fast for him, but David couldn't run that good", he said.

Police in Fresno are crediting technology that alerts them to illegal gunfire with enabling them to swiftly arrest a man accused a deadly rampage.

Muhammad - born Kori McDonald - will be arraigned Friday morning on that murder charge.

Francine Williams described her 25-year-old son as a kind and giving person who had recently gotten engaged. He was sitting in the passenger seat when the gunman approached and fatally shot him. He told her he loved her, too.

"He (Gassett) kept saying that he was going to get sick, but I got sick".

"On what appeared to be Muhammad's Facebook page, he repeatedly posted "#LetBlackPeopleGo" and encouraged "black warriors" to "mount up".

He claimed insanity after being charged with possessing cocaine with intent to distribute in 2005, and his attorney requested a psychiatric examination, saying Muhammad "appeared eccentric with some freakish beliefs".

He had at least two prior mental health hospitalizations, and his attorney said in court papers that Muhammad thought the justice system and his own lawyer were conspiring against him. He also told investigators he is Muslim, but he prays to seven different gods and hasn't been to a mosque in 25 years.

On Tuesday morning, he logged onto the internet at a Starbucks coffee shop and learned that police had identified him as the assailant in that crime.

While working at a Motel 6, Williams and the suspect got into an argument, police said.
