Dems launch pro-Ossoff ad blitz in Georgia

A federal judge ruled that the abortion rights of Missouri women 'are being denied on a daily basis,' and blocked two Missouri abortion restrictions

Documentary film-maker Jon Ossoff, 30, a one-time Congressional staffer who does not even hail from the area he wants to represent, finished first in a crowded field of candidates on Tuesday in a traditionally conservative district. He will face Republican challenger Karen Handel, a former Georgia secretary of state who attracted 19.8 percent of the vote.

"‶It is now Hollywood vs. Georgia on June 20th", Trump wrote, referring to the date of the runoff election between Ossoff and Handel.

With few other events on the political calendar, the race was seen as a bellwether of the national mood during Mr Trump's turbulent first few months in office.

When asked whether Spicer was concerned that "Ossoff came so close to 50 percent", Spicer said, "Well, again, I would - just looking at the facts, there was one candidate on the Democratic side".

"This is already a victory for the ages".

"We are changing the world and your voices are going to ring out across this state and country", Ossoff told his supporters.

The runoff victor will succeed Republican Tom Price, who resigned to join Trump's administration as health secretary.

Anne Hathaway regrets this past misogynistic experience with a film director
Anne Hathaway is known for championing equality, once famously saying 'A man told me that for a woman, I was very opinionated. Oscar-winning actress Anne Hathaway has admitted to not trusting female directors in the past due to "internalised misogyny".

Mr Ossoff raised more than $8m in the weeks leading up to Tuesday's election, much of it coming from major Democratic donors located outside of Georgia.

The close contest had prompted Mr Trump to take to Twitter to urge Republicans to vote.

Spicer did not mention that outside Republican groups also plowed millions into attacking Ossoff and encouraging GOP turnout; a political action committee backed by House Speaker Paul Ryan and other House GOP leaders accounted for at least $2.2 million.

Ossoff, she continued, "Would be another vote for Nancy Pelosi and going to Washington and saying I won't do anything".

"Despite major outside money, FAKE media support and 11 Republican candidates, BIG "R" win with runoff in Georgia". Meanwhile, actresses Jane Fonda and Kyra Sedgwick and Law and Order star Sam Waterston also helped Ossoff's campaign, according to Politico.

Special elections will hold particular importance for Democrats this year, as Republicans now control both the House and Senate.

The Republicans avoided embarrassment last week when it narrowly held a conservative Kansas seat vacated when Mr Trump tapped Representative Mike Pompeo to head the Central Intelligence Agency.
