Facebook unveils social virtual reality app at developer conference

"We're building tools to give people the power to share what they want", he said.

As he appeared at Facebook's annual F8 Developer Conference in California, he announced the "second act" in Facebook's camera development - a platform that will allow developers to create AR apps in a bid to take on Snapchat. This new augmented reality platform will definitely add edge to the graphics that are visible from a camera lens.

Technology gurus hold many different opinions about the true potentials of virtual/augmented reality (VR/AR).

During his F8 kickoff speech, Zuckerberg noted that he had once believed the transition to augmented reality technologies would begin with eyeglasses.

Even though the Facebook CEO has not hinted anything about developing AR games, he did say that the popular networking platform is a great hub for businesses to reach people and experiment with AR.

Vital to break down taboo of mental illness: William, Gaga
Heads Together most recently launched a series of films centered around the importance of speaking up about mental health. William said he had learned that "it's really important to have this conversation".

Zuckerberg calls these applications primitive at the moment, but he's betting they'll take off by inviting developers to create apps for Facebook's in-app camera-rather than headsets or spectacles. Zuckerberg said that they are developing a "mind computer interface" or a computer that can read minds. "We want glasses, or eventually contact lenses, that look and feel normal but that let us overlay all kinds of information and digital objects on top of the real world".

"Think about how numerous things you use don't actually need to be physical", Mark Zuckerberg Told Recode where he also talked about his broader AR vision, which includes AR glasses. Zuckerberg added: "We see the beginning of a new platform". "We are going to make the camera the first mainstream augmented-reality platform".

Facebook Spaces was initially showcased by Mark Zuckerberg at the Oculus Connect Conference in October previous year, but today the company has opened it for public.

The latest services from Facebook operates by creating an animated avatar of you and then transfer you to a virtual world where you are accompanied by your friends.

Zuckerberg said games were likely to be a key component, and showed off a demo of a game turning a table into an AR game, allowing children to interact with objects on it.
