"After a thorough and careful review of the allegations, the company and Bill O'Reilly have agreed that Bill O'Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel", 21st Century Fox said in simple, one-sentence statement. Bill O'Reilly is leaving as of today after what our parent company, 21st Century Fox, called an extensive review of sexual harassment allegations against him, allegations that O'Reilly again today called completely unfounded.
The announcement followed growing reports that the corporation headed by Rupert Murdoch meant to sack the veteran host and just hours after the right-wing television personality was photographed shaking hands with Pope Francis in Rome.
In case you haven't been keeping up with the news on Fox News, the network has been getting a lot of bad publicity over sexual harassment allegations since a number of female Fox employees accused the network's former CEO Roger Ailes of misconduct.
"Over the past 20 years at Fox News, I have been extremely proud to launch and lead one of the most successful news programs in history, which has consistently informed and entertained millions of Americans and significantly contributed to building Fox into the dominant news network in television".
Mr O'Reilly has denied the allegations and said he entered into settlements to spare his family.
As the controversy snowballed dozens of advertisers withdrew their commercials from his program.
A staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, O'Reilly has been an anchor at Fox News since he started at the network in 1996. 21st Century Fox said after Walsh had called the hotline that it was opening an investigation into O'Reilly's conduct. Carlson, a veteran who has hosted shows on CNN, MSNBC and PBS, had taken over for Megyn Kelly in January when she announced she was moving to NBC News.
Iran's FM reacts to Tillerson's criticism on nuclear deal
In his letter to Ryan, Tillerson said that "Iran remains a leading state sponsor of terror through many platforms and methods". On the one hand, Trump wants to show he's tougher than Obama was, but on the other hand, he's not ready to rip up the deal.
"What Rush Limbaugh was to talk radio, Bill O'Reilly has been to conservative television", said Mark Feldstein, communication professor at the University of Maryland. But "I'm not closing the door" on O'Reilly "just because there were allegations that were not confirmed", he said.
Tucker Carlson will take over O'Reilly's 8 p.m.
Others figure that O'Reilly's firing won't be a sticking point for most Fox viewers.
There was no immediate response from Bill O'Reilly's bosses Wednesday to escalating reports that the Fox News Channel personality will lose his job following accusations he had harassed women.
The National Geographic channel has turned several of O'Reilly's books into TV movies. Ousting O'Reilly, he said, "does not speak to a changed culture".
On Wednesday, he was seated in the VIP section, where a photographer from the Vatican newspaper L'Osservatore Romano snapped a photo of Francis reaching out to shake his hand.
In an interview with The New York Times, Fox News contributor Jehmu Greene claims that O'Reilly once made a comment about breaking her back while attorney Lisa Bloom announced that she is now representing Caroline Heldman.
