Fox stock gains ground following O'Reilly firing

Stephen Colbert

The U.S. Attorney's office in NY is investigating how 21st Century Fox handled the Roger Ailes scandal. The book, ironically, includes advice from O'Reilly on treating women with respect.

Over the past several years, O'Reilly has been accused of sexual harassment by various women.

Stephen Colbert opened his show on Wednesday night by addressing Fox News' firing of Bill O'Reilly, the man who served as the inspiration for the "Stephen Colbert" conservative pundit character who spent nearly a decade hosting The Colbert Report. There was word of more accusers in the wings. Fox's longtime CEO Roger Ailes resigned abruptly amid similar sexual harassment charges last July. "It was like street harassment in the office", she continued. O'Reilly also said no woman ever filed a complaint about him with Human Resources or called the company hotline to report harassment.

It's a start. It's a message.

Seeing O'Reilly lose his job because of actions against women felt very cathartic, she said. When advertisers including Mercedes-Benz and Hyundai pulled their ads, more businesses followed. "It was a shock, but more power to Fox News - it's private enterprise". It is also a significant moment for other television personalities and the degree to which off-screen misbehaviour is tolerated. The program was renamed The Factor on the awkward Wednesday, April 19, episode, hours after 21st Century Fox released a statement announcing O'Reilly's exit.

Lawyer: Aaron Hernandez family wants his brain examined
Hernandez's family and legal team said they were "shocked" by his death, calling for a transparent and thorough investigation. The 5,800-square-foot house with 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms was put on the market for $1.5 million in March 2016.

According to CNN's Chris Cillizza, "To understand just how big a deal Fox News' decision to part ways with Bill O'Reilly is, you first have to understand this: O'Reilly was the front-facing spokesman for the modern-day conservative movement just as now-deposed Fox boss Roger Ailes was its behind-the-scenes architect".

Burgess, represented by Lisa Bloom, called into a 21st Century Fox hotline earlier this week, but had remained anonymous until her "View" appearance. Ailes was said to make around $20 million per year. It isn't and it never has been. "And if you're a woman, you know, have a go at the front, too".

Bill O'Reilly won't be around every night to remind me - and, I'm sure, countless others - of the men who have hurt and violated us in the past. O'Reilly walked by, she recalled, and said, "Hey, hot chocolate".

Waters demolished him in a public statement. Still, O'Reilly could have used his enormous viewership and audience loyalty to try to temper the growing polarization and anger in society.

In the wake of his dismissal, I think I can speak for millions of women: Frankly, we don't give a damn.
