Gorsuch's ascension to high court vindicates McConnell plan

MSNBC host Katy Tur asked Markey earlier in the interview whether he and Democrats had regrets about opposing President Trump's Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, who was sworn in on Monday. Another was Merrick Garland, the judge who stood on the same spot in March past year as Barack Obama issued a dire warning that if Republicans blocked his nomination it would imperil American democracy. The change allowed the Senate to hold a final vote to approve Gorsuch with a simple majority. "And I got it done in the first 100 days". "I will never forget that to whom much is given, much will be expected", said Justice Gorsuch.

Former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, a Mississippi Republican, said Gorsuch got confirmed because he mostly kept quiet.

Gorsuch was praised for his faithfulness to the Constitution and his ability to split his personal preferences from the law. Instead, basking in sunshine, Trump was eager to seize on what he hopes will be the biggest boost to his rocky presidency so far. "I have no doubt that you will go down as one of the truly great justices", Trump said. Yet amid the bitter cross-aisle bickering, a lighthearted moment emerged: Justice Elena Kagan explained to Gorsuch what it's like to be the most junior member of the highest court, where seniority is prized above all.

Gorsuch's academic and legal credentials, like those of his future colleagues, are unassailable: A graduate of Columbia, Harvard and Oxford, he has worked as a Justice Department attorney and a Supreme Court law clerk - for Justice Anthony Kennedy, with whom he will soon serve. Under McConnell's leadership, the Senate past year refused to consider Democratic former President Barack Obama's nomination of Merrick Garland to replace Scalia, an appointment that would have tilted the court to the left for the first time in decades.

"You don't want anyone to be able to be confirmed just with a bare majority", Markey said.

Cristiano Ronaldo wants Real Madrid fans to stop booing
"I don't think Real Madrid have any influence on referees". "There are decisions that have penalized us a lot". "It's very harsh. Of course, the game was not without controversy as Cristiano Ronaldo's hat trick pushed Real Madrid to beat Bayern Munich.

The White House swearing-in ceremony was a departure from recent history.

'A Supreme Court justice, like Judge Gorsuch, who understands and values our founding documents, and hews closely to their meaning will help ensure that all Americans can continue to prosper and that we, as Catholics, remain free in exercising our religious principles, ' said Dr Grazie Pozo Christie, policy adviser with The Catholic Association.

If President Donald Trump were to choose someone on the right-wing like Gorsuch to succeed Kennedy, the nation's highest court would become significantly more conservative. Now that he's been sworn in, when does Gorsuch start work on the Supreme Court? "And I promise you that I will do all my powers permit to be a faithful servant of the Constitution and laws of this great nation". Trump boasted at the swearing in-ceremony/GOP pep rally.

Five of the nine justices now on the court have been appointed by a Republican president.

So despite a filibuster by Democrats to stop the nomination of Gorsuch to the Court (with Republicans agreeing Thursday to end the 60-vote threshold necessity for Supreme Court nominees using the long-debated "nuclear option"), things for Gorsuch and his Republican and Democratic backers are ready to roll forward.
