Lawmaker who used racial slurs and called peer 'bitch' resigns

Sen. Audrey Gibson D-Jacksonville

Artiles was chastised for using a form of the "n-word" during an exchange with two African-American colleagues Monday night. Artiles, a Republican state senator, is expected to apologize publicly Wednesday April 19, 2017, for using racial slurs and obscene insults in a private after-hours conversation with African-American colleagues. To the people of my district and all of Miami-Dade, I am sorry I have let you down and ask for your forgiveness. "The American people and Floridians want their leaders to be accountable and responsible, and by resigning my elected office I believe I am demonstrating those qualities they desire and deserve", Artiles said in the statement released by a publicist.

In separate statement, Articles said, "While I take full responsibility for using language that was vulgar and inappropriate, my family has fallen victim to a political process that can distort the truth for the sole goal of political gain". It happened when he was out with fellow Senators Audrey Gibson from Jacksonville and Perry Thurston from Fort Lauderdale.

Senate President Joe Negron said former Sen. Thurston, the chairman of the Legislative Black Caucus, subsequently filed a Senate rules complaint against Artiles seeking his explusion. Frank Artiles officially submitted his letter of resignation on Friday.

While out for drinks on Monday night, Artiles told State Sens. "We all owe him a debt of gratitude for serving our country in the United State Marine Corps, where he fought for our freedom in the Global War on Terror", continued Negron. "My Senate colleagues and I wish Senator Artiles and his family well".

Jazz center Gobert to miss game two with Clippers
The Raptors have lost back-to-back games just once since the All-Star break, losing March 10 at Atlanta and March 11 at Miami. A switch on defense between Chris Paul and Griffin allowed Jazz forward Boris Diaw to post up the smaller Paul.

Artiles took to the Senate floor Wednesday morning to apologize for his profanity-laced and racially offensive language when he criticized Gibson and the leadership of Senate President Joe Negron.

"I applaud and welcome Senator Artiles' decision to resign today".

Braynon said, "I take no pleasure in these unfortunate events. But I urge that we learn from them", Braynon said. Meanwhile, Republicans in the Senate and the Republican Party of Florida have been content with letting Artiles off with just a slap on the wrist - his roommate, Republican Representative Jose Oliva even saying that Artiles has "acted honorably'". We can not afford the high cost words of divisiveness and cruelty leave in their wake.
