Man imprisoned 23 years in girlfriend's slaying is released

Evin King center wipes away a tear as his daughter Venus King left leads him out of Cuyahoga County Jail on Wednesday

His 1995 conviction for killing his girlfriend was overturned after a second sample of physical evidence tested after the trial also did not match King's DNA, pointing to someone else committing the murder.

Family, friends and attorneys greeted Evin King as he left the Cuyahoga County jail this morning.

A Cleveland, Ohio man who thought he'd be spending the rest of his life in prison will soon know freedom again.

According to the Ohio Innocence Project, he is the 25th person the organization has freed on grounds of innocence since it was founded in 2003.

King has always maintained his innocence.

His girlfriend, Crystal Hudson, was found strangled in her closet in 1994. Provided there are no other holds, King will be released Wednesday.

MPs overwhelmingly vote for snap general election on 8 June
She said: "At this moment of enormous national significance there should be unity in Westminster, but instead there is division". And justifying her change of mind, she has argued a vote is needed as opposition parties were trying to "frustrate" Brexit .

"I knew this day would come one day, and I knew I would cry", King said in the video.

King's son, Evin King II, was 11-years-old.

The Innocence Project took his case and did new testing in 2009. Ricky Jackson, convicted of shooting a man during a robbery in 1975, spent over 39 years in prison before being exonerated. The Innocence Project praised his decision to void the conviction.

Evin King, center, waves his arm as he walks out of the Cuyahoga County Justice Center on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, in Cleveland.

Judge Brian Corrigan has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday.
