May wins Parliament vote to hold snap elections on June 8

Holding yet another election is the only way she will achieve this.

IG Group, which is an online trading platform, has created a general election seats market which allows traders buy and sell the total amount of seats each party could win. Within minutes of the prime minister's announcement, one national chain was giving odds of 2/9 on an overall majority for the Conservatives, with Labour out on 14/1.

Telling MPs it was time to "put our fate in the hands of the people and let the people decide", Mrs May told the House of Commons: "We are determined to bring stability to the United Kingdom for the long term and that's what this election will be about - leadership and stability".

Three weekend opinion polls put the Conservatives about 20 points ahead of Labour, while Britain second female prime minister also has strong personal support.

The election could however have significant implications for the UK's negotiating position.

Jeremy Corbyn lionized the Labour Party as being the only party that is focussed on living wages, debt, child poverty, and a severely beleaguered National Health System. Another Tory broken promise.

But one of last year's strongest pro-European voices, former Conservative finance minister George Osborne, will not seek re-election.

But Corbyn said the Prime Minister's U-turn showed she could not be trusted to run the country.

Media captionJeremy Corbyn says Theresa May "is refusing to defend her record in TV debates and it's not hard to see why".

Corbyn, however, wasn't having any of it.

Oil prices mixed after US production seen rising
World oil demand growth in 2016 was kept broadly unchanged at 1.38 million barrels per day (mb/d), averaging 95.05 mb/d. Official US oil data is expected to be published later on Wednesday by the Energy Information Administration (EIA).

So far, and it is early days, investors think May will end up with a bigger majority in Parliament, giving her a potentially stronger hand in the Brexit negotiations with the other 27 European Union states. "It's what democracy needs and what the British people deserve".

May, however, said she believes that going out into the public and "knocking on doors" to meet voters would be much more beneficial than time spent in television studios embroiled in debates.

May hit back that Labour offered only "bankruptcy and chaos", but denied she was complacent, saying: "We will be out there fighting for every vote".

The House of Commons voted by 522 to 13 to hold a general election on 8 June - plunging Britain back into political uncertainty just weeks before the start of negotiations on leaving the European Union.

"This should cross party lines", he said in a statement hours after Prime Minister Theresa May announced plans for a June 8 vote.

Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon described the election call as "a huge political miscalculation by the Prime Minister". Scotland overwhelmingly opted to Remain in last year's Brexit referendum.

No details of format or date have yet been released, but it is expected that Julie Etchingham will host the programme, as she did in 2015, when seven leaders including David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg took part in a two-hour showdown.

Addressing a rowdy parliament, she said moving the election would avoid a clash of priorities in the most sensitive final stages of the two-year talks, ignoring criticism from opposition politicians that she was opportunistic and untrustworthy.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer said Wednesday: "We have an interest.in predictability and reliability, because we want to get this process done in the prescribed period of time and above all because we don't need upheaval in this negotiating process - either at the beginning or the end".

Certain polls even show the Tories at a vote share almost twice as much as Corbyn's Labour Party.
