Suspect in custody in case of strangled Schaumburg woman

Officers went to the apartment Sunday in the 2600 block of Clipper Drive to check on Tiffany Thrasher, and found her body inside, according to Schaumburg Police. Officers conducted a well-being check after friends who were concered over her absence from church contacted police.

A person was in custody Wednesday in relation to the strangling death of a woman whose body was found in a Schaumburg apartment after she failed to appear at Easter Sunday services, authorities said.

Police believe Mejia-Maya allegedly entered Thrasher's ground-floor apartment through an unlocked window. His building was to the north of hers and he had lived there for six months prior to the murder.

Schaumburg police said they found evidence at the scene linking Mejia-Maya to Thrasher's death. Investigators still don't know if Thrasher and Mejia-Maya had known each other before the murder, the report added.

Bulmaro Mejia-Maya is charged with first-degree murder, home invasion and sexual assault.
