NIA court issues non-bailable warrant against Zakir Naik

The arrest of Naik is urgently required for the goal of the investigation in order to unearth the entire conspiracy, the NIA said.

A SPECIAL court in Mumbai on Thursday issued a non-bailable warrant against televangelist Zakir Naik on an application filed by the NIA.

Earlier, the court had sent four summons to Naik, who is in the UAE, to present before it but he didn't appear.

The ED registered a criminal case for money laundering against Naik and others last December after taking cognisance of a complaint registered against him by the National Investigation Agency under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

Following the Dhaka attack, the agency had registered a case against him and some officials of his organisation, Islamic Research Foundation (IRF), under section 153-A of IPC (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion) and the Additional Session Judge pronounced order and said, "The open dated Non-baialble Warrant is issued against Zakir Naik".

Skrillex Explains Why He Was Handcuffed Last Night

Dr Zakir previously told Indian authorities searching for him to find him here in Malaysia, where he was given permanent residency five years ago.

The local Hindu community, in particular, remains aggrieved with the preacher owing to remarks he previously made regarding their faith.

MIC president and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam yesterday said Malaysia must not permit the controversial preacher to use the country as a haven from a terrorism investigation simply because of his religious credentials.

"The Government, especially the Home Ministry must also account as to why Dr Zakir was granted PR status and special consideration seeing that he is known for creating tension", MCA's Religious Bureau chairman Datuk Ti Lian Ker said in a statement.
