Rep. Davis Disagrees With Judge's Injunction On Abortion Law

A federal judge ruled that the abortion rights of Missouri women 'are being denied on a daily basis,' and blocked two Missouri abortion restrictions

Planned Parenthood says a federal judge's ruling will let its clinics in Springfield and Joplin help women who want medicine-produced abortions. The law was similar to one in Texas that the U.S. Supreme Court struck down last June, after it sharply reduced the number of abortion providers there.

But in his 17-page decision, Sachs made clear that he was bound by the U.S. Supreme Court's decision past year in Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt striking down similar abortion restrictions in Texas. On Wednesday, House lawmakers advanced legislation that would mandate state inspections of abortion clinics, lay out rules for fetal tissue disposal and require two parents be notified when a minor seeks an abortion.

Sachs had issued a memorandum on April 4 calling the restrictions unconstitutional, siding with Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood Great Plains and Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri.

Planned Parenthood affiliates with Missouri health centers had sought the move in suing over Missouri's restrictions last November.

Vital to break down taboo of mental illness: William, Gaga
Heads Together most recently launched a series of films centered around the importance of speaking up about mental health. William said he had learned that "it's really important to have this conversation".

Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley, a Republican, said in a statement provided to the Star that he will challenge the decision. "This decision was wrong". Lawder says Planned Parenthood would not be able to offer abortions without the injunction from Sachs.

No other medical facility in Springfield has openly offered abortions since Springfield Healthcare Center closed in 2005.

"Together, we are excited to end Missouri's shameful one-provider status, and soon be offering four more locations where women can access safe, legal abortion without facing geographical obstacles", Planned Parenthood Great Plains President and CEO, Laura McQuade, and her counterpart in the St. Louis region, Mary Kogut, said in a joint statement.

A new Missouri rule will strip state family planning funds from organizations that provide abortions, including hospitals. It is also the resounding affirmation we've long awaited - that medically unnecessary restrictions like admitting privileges and ambulatory surgical center requirements are state mandated laws thought up by extremists in Jefferson City.
