Sacked Fox News host Bill O'Reilly blasts 'unfounded' harassment claims

Trump to meet Italian premier ahead of G-7 meeting in Italy

According to an investigation by The New York Times earlier this month, Fox and O'Reilly, paid five women roughly $13 million to settle claims of sexual harassment against the TV veteran. Ailes has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.

The announcement followed growing reports that the corporation headed by Rupert Murdoch meant to sack the veteran host and just hours after the right-wing television personality was photographed shaking hands with Pope Francis in Rome.

Hours after Bill O'Reilly was sacked amid swirling sexual harassment accusations, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee went on the longtime Fox News anchor's old show and made an off-color analogy about not being able to "kiss a woman leaning away from you". The report led to O'Reilly losing dozens of advertisers on his program, which has the highest ratings in cable news.

Wednesday's new denial by O'Reilly - calling the harassment claims unfounded - may be significant to potential business partners.

The National Geographic channel says it has made no decision about its development of Bill O'Reilly's book "Killing Patton" following O'Reilly's exit from Fox News.

O'Reilly, who was with the network for 20 years, said he was proud of his time at Fox.

When it announced Ailes' departure last summer, 21st Century Fox said that it would "continue our commitment to maintaining a work environment based on trust and respect".

Charles Herring, the president of Herring Networks, which owns OANN, said he expected Fox would replace O'Reilly with a highly capable host, but he's hopeful that "viewers migrate to One America News".

Van Susteren went to NBCUniversal's MSNBC; Kelly to sister NBC unit NBC News, starting up show later this year.

Now, Carlson will be the 8 p.m. host, followed by the breezy discussion program "The Five", which moves to 9 p.m.

The Late Show airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.

O'Reilly, 67, had ruled the "no spin zone" on television with a quick smile and an even quicker temper.

But it was O'Reilly who created the template for how to succeed in cable TV punditry, delighting his viewers with unapologetic attacks on liberal politicians and media members that he delivered with gusto.

His show generated 178 million dollars (£140m) in advertising revenue in 2015, according to Kantar Media.

One current Fox News contributor who had stayed silent for months came forward Wednesday with complaints that O'Reilly had made inappropriate comments to her.

A campaign to target advertisers was continuing, a group of women demonstrated in front of Fox's headquarters on Tuesday and another woman, a former clerical worker at Fox, called a harassment hotline and accusing the host of boorish behaviour.

O'Reilly said in a statement at the time that he had settled only to spare his children from the controversy.

O'Reilly's salary is believed to be $18 million.

Perino closed Wednesday's show saying: "It is the end of an era here at Fox News Channel".

On O'Reilly-less "The Factor", Mike Huckabee complaining that in political climate you can't "kiss a woman leaning away from you".

He went on vacation and was scheduled to return from vacation in Italy next Monday. 21st Century Fox issued a statement Wednesday, April 19, 2017, .

But O'Reilly has been on Fox News for more than two decades. In total it has sold 141,394 copies in three weeks.
