Seattle officers shot while responding to robbery

Seattle police say there is more than one suspect and one of them has significant injuries; and another has been taken in to custody. It wasn't clear which officer had which injuries.

Two Seattle police officers responding to a robbery at a convenience store were shot, one critically, and authorities were still searching for a suspect Thursday.

The shooting occurred near Madison Street and Western Avenue, just blocks away from the downtown waterfront, the Seattle Police Department announced on Twitter.

Chief Kathleen O'Toole told reporters at first that the injuries to the officers were believed to be minor, but hospital officials later said one of the officers is in critical condition.

The officers were taken to Harborview Medical Center, police said.

Are Donald and Ivanka Trump following 'Buy American' rules?
The White House argues that some companies undercut American workers by bringing in cheaper foreign labour on a temporary basis. The commerce secretary will review how to close loopholes in existing rules and provide recommendations to the president.

"We have two police officers who are injured and our hearts and our thoughts are with those officers and with their families", Mayor Ed Murray said in a press conference Thursday. She is in satisfactory condition. At some point, the officers were shot.

While one officer fought with a suspect on the ground, a female suspect struck that officer over the head with a bottle, Best said.

Officials were advising people that traffic in the downtown core would be affected for several hours for the investigation. It's not clear if that was the wounded suspect.

The public should avoid the area while police investigate.

This is a developing story.
