Sharks Explode For Seven Goals While Blanking Oilers to Even Series

With Kris Russell in the box for a hooking penalty on Timo Meier the Sharks took a couple trips into the zone with shades of the same old power play, i.e. lots of perimeter passing looking for flawless shots without much traffic in front of the net, until Logan Couture launched a wrister passed an off balance Cam Talbot resulting from some nifty cross ice passes to put the Sharks ahead 2-0.

The Sharks poured it on in the second period, adding goals from Patrick Marleau, Marcus Sorensen, and Couture in the first 13 minutes.

"My math says the series is still 2-2", Oilers captain Connor McDavid said.

The Sharks kept McDavid, who entered the series with a 14-game point streak, off the board for a second-consecutive game Tuesday.

Talbot had given up only three goals in 83 shots entering the game and was pulled after giving up five in 24 attempts. Will the Sharks keep up their newfound fire power or will the Oilers bounce back from a performance they likely want to forgot? "Big saves, timely saves, especially early on when they had all their momentum, he was great for us".

The San Jose power play had four goals by game's end, feasting on an Oilers team that's been undisciplined from the start. San Jose Sharks goalie Martin Jones, bottom, makes a stop next to teammate Paul Martin (7) and Edmonton Oilers' Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (93) during the second period in Game 4 of a first-round NHL hockey playoff series Tuesd. This was, after all, the most lopsided playoff loss in the team's history - besting, or worsting, 8-2 losses to the Isles in 1981 and Blackhawks in 1992. His return gave an immediate boost in the lineup, with a first period that saw the Sharks out-shoot and out-hit the Oiler by a 2-to-1 margin, though nothing was translated to the scoreboard. Talbot misplayed the shot. The slap shot provided a bit of redemption for Schlemko, who gave up Game 3's only goal after an errant pass near the Sharks goal.

Now, the Oilers head back to Edmonton for the first game of what is now a best-of-three series on Thursday night. "Just not much either way and so we just got in there inside and made a few plays tonight". It shows you that a team can take their game to a different level. It was a one-off.

Berkeley soda tax a sweet success, study says
It applies to regular soda, energy drinks, sports drinks, sweetened juice drinks, flavored waters, RTD sweetened coffees and teas. Since then, other cities have implemented similar taxes, including San Francisco, Chicago, Oakland, Calif., and Boulder, Colo.

Numerous same fans who took in Game 3 on Sunday, and maybe some new arrivals, will be at the SAP Center, hoping for another road win and a stranglehold on the series.

The Sharks' goal drought ended quickly. This time, San Jose center Logan Couture delivered what former Sharks beat writer for the San Jose Mercury News David Pollak called a "wicked wrister". The previous record was 28 seconds (Dany Heatley vs. Los Angeles in 2011 during a 3-2 win).

"It was critical", Pete DeBoer said of scoring first.

Right now San Jose needs to find something to jump start its offense.

Schlemko closed out the scoring at 6:45 of the third period. Some more grade-A chances. The five-hole score would be Pavelski's second goal on the night, putting the Sharks up 6-0.

The talk entering the game focused on the lack of production from the Sharks' most talented players. C Micheal Haley, RW Kevin Labanc, D Dylan DeMelo and LW Mikkel Boedker were San Jose's healthy scratches.
