He is survived by Oscar victor Cuba Gooding Jr., as well as three other children.

TMZ reports police officers found the musician "slumped over in his silver Jaguar, parked on Ventura Blvd". The agency didn't give any further details but it said that Cuba Gooding Sr. may have died either due to natural causes or a drug overdose.

Gooding was lead singer for the 70's soul group The Main Ingredient. "I was born in a little town called the village of Harlem, New York City". Gooding was the father of actors Cuba Gooding, Jr. and Omar Gooding. During that same period, Gooding Sr. first moved his family to Los Angeles in pursuit of his career, and then abandoned his wife and four children.

Yesterday (April 20), singer Cuba Gooding Sr. passed away in his auto at the age of 72. The cause of death had yet to be determined, but a spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department said no foul play was suspected.

The presidential candidates have also vowed to suspend campaign events to honour the police officer who died in the shooting. The two police officers injured in the attack are out of danger, Interior Ministry spokesman Pierre-Henry Brandet said.

Gooding Sr. would have been 73 next week.

"He would pull me up on stage with him and make me finish the song because I had seen him perform it all the time, and in the household all the time". Gooding worked with the group as a backing singer, but when McPherson became too sick to tour, Gooding sang lead during live concerts. "It was a lot of feeling like, 'I come from royalty'".

In 1977, Gooding left the band to pursue a solo career on Motown in 1977, releasing two albums.

The couple married in 1966 but reportedly split up eight years later, eventually remarrying in 1995.
