Snap Buys Mobli Geofitler Patent

Moshe Hogeg just sold Mobli's Geofilters patent to Snapchat for $7.7M

Since Mobli's original patent for Geofilters was approved back in 2014, which is way before Snapchat planned the Geofilters feature, the company was actually infringing Mobli's patent and we can only assume that the IP acquisition was done in order to avoid a potential infringement law-suit in the future.

The patent - US#20160373805, US#9459778 - describes methods and systems of providing visual content-editing functions.

The Mobli patent sale exceeds the earlier $2.7 million patent deal linked to Google Maps, and becomes the most expensive technology patent deal in Israel, notes TC.

Asked to confirm the story, Moshe Hogeg replied to TechCrunch with "No comment".

"In continuation with our email below", the mail reads, "we are happy to let you all know that the transaction of selling our "Location based filters" patent to Snapchat was closed, and the $7.7M' consideration was received".

Romero saved from close range after Acheampong ghosted in and Kara Mbodji headed over either side of a disallowed Martial goal. United started as sloppily as they ended the first leg in Brussels, but showed a cutting edge so often lacking this term.

Moshe Hogeg has declined to comment and we're still waiting to hear from Snapchat.

The location-specific filters were provided on the server side, allowing the company to provide different filters without the app itself having to update.

In addition, the company acquired the patent because Geofilters are an important part of its revenue. As an example, Snap recognizes sponsored campaigns by Starbucks and Wendi's, that made use of the Sponsored Geofilters and have created value for the advertiser.

Snap just bought a patent from one-time Instagram rival Mobli. But other sources deny that Facebook was offered any such thing. Simply put, Snap could have been out of business, which Facebook probably wants.

A source speaking to TechCrunch said, Mobli first spoke to Facebook about selling the patent and "Facebook 100% wanted it". The social media giant, which once wanted to acquire Snapchat, has been frequently copying its features.
