Sold out! OR campsites for August eclipse snapped up

Bailey’s Beads Effect

The state of OR is opening up reservations this morning for about a thousand additional campsites in OR near the path of the August 21 total solar eclipse.

And it didn't long for them to fill.

More than a thousand spaces - 1,018, to be exact - were opened up by converting "first come, first serve" campsites, parking areas and other open spaces into reservable individual campsites just for August 18-20.

The origins of 4/20, marijuana's high holiday
Though it wound up being a wild goose chase, it eventually gave rise to the shortened term "420" to denote smoking marijuana. The story told on countless couches around the country is that "420" is police code for a marijuana arrest.

All state park sites available by reservation are now taken, though cancellations may return a few sites to the pool.

Sites range from basic to full-service, with a three-night minimum for the August 21 eclipse.

Stay on topic - This helps keep the thread focused on the discussion at hand. (For example, you can check availability at Unity Lake State Recreation Site, which experienced some reservation glitches today.) There are alternatives, such as the camping packages for Oregon Solarfest 2017, but don't dally if you want to see darkness at midday.
