Survivalist who ambushed police seeks to avoid death penalty

A jury convicted Eric Frein on 12 counts Wednesday, including first degree murder and attempted murder in the shooting of a pair of Pennsylvania State Troopers in 2014.

Frein, 33, of Barrett Township, Monroe County, is standing trial on a dozen charges, including first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and terrorism.

The focus now shifts to the impact of Frein's crimes.

Trooper Alex Douglass, 34, was shot and critically wounded as he rushed to Dickson's aid.

The same jury that convicted him after four hours of deliberations will reconvene on Thursday to hear evidence in the penalty phase of trial at Pike County Courthouse.

The case will now move to the penalty phase, beginning tomorrow at 1:30 p.m.

Tonkin asks jury to onsider Frein words in letter, notes- hoping to spark revolution; describing shots-flight from manhunt: that's the real Eric Frein.

"This case is not yet over". "We have a serious and somber proceeding to go through".

Bruins' Colin Miller Expected To Return For Crucial Game 4 Vs. Senators
The fun got started for the B's in the second , but not before the crowd was silenced almost four minutes into the period. Miller also said he's ready to return , although Cassidy said his defenseman still will be a game-time decision.

He then led authorities on a 48-day manhunt through the wilderness.

Over 10 days, prosecutors called 54 witnesses and introduced almost 540 pieces of evidence to prove their case against Frein, accused of killing Cpl.

Eric Frein showed no emotion when he was found guilty on all counts in his murder trial, Wednesday.

The letter said in part that "only passing through the crucible of another revolution can get us back the liberties we once had".

Michael Weinstein, one of Frein's defense attorneys, said the verdict "was not unexpected". He says the defense team "can't make him a holy man" but they're "trying to make him a man".

He insisted Frein has an "inner core of goodness".

Pennsylvania has a moratorium on executions under Gov. Tom Wolf.

As the verdict was read, Frein was standing with his head down, hands folded in front of him.

"Today justice was served and a brutal murderer will be held accountable for his heinous and cowardly acts against members of the Pennsylvania State Police", he said in a statement.
