Trump slams Canada as 'disgrace' on dairy policy

Trudeau's comments come two days after Trump promised US dairy farmers he would intervene to restore exports of American milk to Canada.

"I've been reading about it, " Trump said this week in Wisconsin, which along with NY, is a state with a lot of hurting dairy farmers.

On steel, Trump said that USA production "is not an area where we can afford to become dependent on foreign countries".

U.S. President Donald Trump unloaded on Canada from the Oval Office Thursday, suggesting that the country was "taking advantage" of U.S. workers and demanding trade renegotiations begin "very quickly". The remark stood in contrast to Trump's latest denunciation of the North American Free Trade Agreement - the president said this week he's anxious to see some "some very big changes" to the pact.

All U.S. dairy exports to Canada in 2016 totaled $631.6 million, a 14 percent increase from 2015, according to the U.S. Dairy Export Council.

Trump also singled out "lumber, timber and energy" as issues in the Canada-U.S. trade partnership, although he did not get into specifics. He said Thursday that steel is critical to the U.S.

Trump says he'll have more to say about upcoming NAFTA negotiations within a couple of weeks.

Juventus knock Barcelona out of Champions League
The Italian, who has guided Juventus to back-to-back Serie A and Coppa Italia Doubles, has been linked with a move to Arsenal. When Barca did manage to carve out chances, Suarez, Messi and Neymar failed to deliver.

"In Canada, what they've done to our dairy farm workers is a disgrace". While the president clearly pegged it as a NAFTA renegotiation issue in Wisconsin, Canada has known for a while that it would be targeted.

"In the last few months, virtually all of the US noise on dairy was coming from dairy interests - states and industry associations", he added. Trudeau and Trump are also at odds over softwood lumber.

Much like some prior orders, however, Trump's executive action Tuesday essentially looks for detailed reports rather than making decisive changes.

In an emailed statement Thursday afternoon, Global Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland said the Liberals will "always defend Canada's interests".

- April 13 letter to U.S. President Donald Trump from the National Milk Producers Federation, the U.S. Dairy Export Council, the International Dairy Foods Association and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture. He called the current arrangement a "one-sided deal", and vowed to "work on it immediately".

Trump's outburst also came on a day-the famous, infamous 4/20-when, at the stroke of what they dubbed "high noon", several pro-marijuana activists were arrested on Capitol Hill after handing out free tokes to congressional staffers, giving new meaning to the phrase "joint session".

"More broadly, tens of thousands of dairy farmers will be affected by the larger scope of what Canada is doing, which is using pricing policy to offload milk powder in global markets where it will be competing with USA exports", said Chris Galen, a federation spokesman.
