United Airlines to testify at hearing after violent video surfaces

United Airlines CEO Oscar Munoz waits to be interviewed

United Airlines says there has been "concern" from its lucrative corporate clients in the wake of negative sentiment generated by the leggings controversy and the infamous "re-accommodation" of Dr. David Dao.

In a bipartisan fashion, too.

The panel's chairman, Rep. Bill Shuster, R-Pa., and top Democrat, Rep. Peter DeFazio of OR, jointly announced their plan Wednesday. A date for the hearing has not been disclosed.

In the aftermath of the global uproar over a passenger being brutally dragged off an United Airlines flight last week, United CEO Oscar Munoz said that he met with Chinese consulate officials in Chicago to discuss the possible impact that the incident could have on bookings in one of the company's most important markets.

Like the United Airlines CEO, Metrorail would have a ready string of excuses, cable theft being one of them. He initially defended the conduct of airline employees before apologizing multiple times. Security was called and after a violent tussle with the passenger in his economy-class window seat, the medic was dragged off, apparently unconscious, with two teeth missing, a broken nose and concussion.

His lawyers said he plans to sue the airline. The airline has a deadline from the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee to answer questions about the incident.

Washington to Review Iran Deal
Wednesday at the State Department, the secretary spent the majority of his remarks discussing the threat posed by Iran. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson speaks at the U.S. -Saudi Arabia CEO Summit, on April 19, 2017, at the U.S.

Munoz said that the response to a letter that the CEO sent to a group of United's "most loyal customers" was positive. Those on the House of Representatives committee were already pressing federal regulators for a thorough investigation last week.

He said the airline will have more to say later this month, after it finishes a review of its policies on overbooked flights.

United Airlines' reputation is circling the drain after the forcible removal of a passenger from one of its flights went viral and made global headlines last week.

Specifically, Blumenthal called on Chao to look into whether airlines are offering passengers the full amount of compensation for bumping allowed by law, airline overbooking and bumping practices, and whether airlines employees are being properly trained about passengers' rights.

Other airlines have chose to increase their compensation offers for such passengers.
