USS Carl Vinson sailed away from, not to, Korean Peninsula

"The US is coordinating with the South Korean government about a combined drill which the Carl Vinson Strike Group can join", a South Korean official said.

A U.S. aircraft carrier and other warships, which President Donald Trump said were sent to the Korean Peninsula last week as a warning, did not sail towards North Korea - but went in the opposite direction, it has emerged.

Officials said Tuesday that the false narrative about the Carl Vinson resulted from mistakes and miscommunication up the military chain of command to the White House, and was not part of a deliberate military attempt to psych out North Korea's leaders and mislead the public.

House Foreign Affairs Chairman Ed Royce suggested the Trump administration's actions, including Trump's statement that an "armada" was headed to the Korean Peninsula, helped deter or delay North Korea's latest nuclear test.

A Navy photograph showed the Vinson off Java over the weekend, traveling through the Sunda Strait.

Tensions with North Korea have recently escalated, as the rogue Asian nation has continued to test ballistic missiles and is believed to be the stages of another nuclear test. Asked about the deployment in an interview with Fox Business Network that aired April 12, President Trump said: "We are sending an armada, very powerful".

"I think when you see a carrier group steaming into an area like that, the forward presence of that is clearly, through nearly every instance, a huge deterrence", he said, saying earlier that the strike force "gives the President options in the region".

Iran foreign minister says US must meet own obligations for nuclear deal
Congress mandated that the State Department must notify it every 90 days about Iran's compliance with its nuclear obligations. Mr Tillerson accused Iran of a series of " alarming and ongoing provocations that export terror and violence".

"After departing Singapore on April 8 and cancelling a scheduled port visit to Perth, the Strike Group was able to complete a curtailed period of previously scheduled training with Australia in worldwide waters off the northwest coast of Australia".

Speaking aboard the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier at the US Yokosuka naval base in Tokyo Bay, Mr Pence said the Trump administration would continue to "work diligently" with allies such as Japan, China and other global powers to apply economic and diplomatic pressure on Pyongyang.

Further confusion was added when Secretary of Defense Gen. James Mattis told reporters last week that the exercises had been canceled. McMaster said. "I mean, North Korea has been engaged in a pattern of provocative behavior".

Tensions between North Korea and the US rose ahead of the isolated nation's annual celebration of its founding, when it was expected to test its nuclear program. The expected arrival of the ships flashed across front pages in East Asia, where many were concerned of a preemptive USA military strike on North Korea, the New York Times reported.

They just lie outright about the location, direction, and intent of entire carrier groups.

"Our deployment has been extended 30 days to provide a persistent presence in the Waters off the Korean Peninsula", the post said.

Ordinarily, it'd take years for a president to outrage this many countries, but Trump is clearly an over-achiever.
