We won't drag passenger off plane anymore: United Airlines CEO

The passenger was identified as Mr Dao, a 69-year-old physician from Elizabethtown, Kentucky. Usually, the airline will offer passengers a voucher if they agree to be rebooked on a later flight.

Emirates has targeted the CEO, Oscar Munoz, directly by using a quote from last month against him -Munoz said that Persian Gulf-based airlines "aren't airlines" while criticizing the substantial subsidies they receive from their governments.

According to The New York Times, in 2016, 62,895 United passengers voluntarily gave up their seats. All but Dao agreed to leave.

President Trump told The Wall Street Journal that airlines should not be prevented from overselling flights.

The shaky video, accompanied by horrified reactions, shows armed officers dragging Dao out of his seat and off the plane, only to stumble back on moments later, covered in blood, demanding to be seated.

Dao appeared again shortly thereafter, saying "I have to go home", only to be taken off the plane again.

But once police were aboard the plane, it would have been hard to walk away, especially if they did not know why the passenger was asked to leave, said Kevin Murphy, executive director of the Airport Law Enforcement Agencies Network.

"Once you're there, it becomes tough to disengage".

"When you watch the video, it is troubling to see how that was handled", White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said. "If someone is saying they're staying no matter what the property owner says, you have to wonder why they want to try so hard", to stay.

Yelich, sprinting with his back to home plate, leaped into the air and caught the ball, only to crash face-first into the wall. Miranda (1-1) allowed four singles and only one runner to reach second base while striking out five.

The letter, sent Tuesday, April 11, is signed by 21 Democratic senators, including Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, and says they are "deeply concerned" about the incident.

That's when three Aviation Department police officers boarded the plane.

But the public relations damage was done, with calls for boycotts and the US Department of Transportation promising to review the airline's actions.

Booking more people than there are seats is just too important to airline profitability. The department announced Wednesday that two more officers have been placed on leave.

"Our employees followed established procedures for dealing with situations like this", the CEO wrote.

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy says the compensation will equal the cost of passengers' tickets and will come in the form of cash, travel credits or miles.

But they sometimes miscalculate and inadvertently book more passengers than a flight can handle. But the bottom line, he said, is that the airline put the police officers in a hard situation by expecting them "to solve an issue that they had created".

"This was an abnormal situation because usually the computer's making the decision before everybody's on the plane", said Snyder. "The real question is, at what point did the airline think this is no longer their problem and turns this over to the police?"

That includes all surveillance videos, cockpit voice recordings, passenger and crew lists, incident reports and other items.
