Sony has thrown down the guantlet, committing to produce Robert Jordan's hugely popular and expansive fantasy series, "The Wheel of Time", in partnership with Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures. The Cliff's Notes version of the series is that the stories follow a quest to find the Dragon Reborn, whose aim it is to gather forces that will turn the tide of a war against The Dark One. The series of books started with The Eye of the World in 1990 and ended with A Memory of Light, which Sanderson completed after Sanderson passed away in 2017. Rafe Judkins is attached to write and executive produce.

Sony will produce with Red Eagle Entertainment and Radar Pictures. Judkins previously worked on shows such as ABC's "Agents of SHIELD", the Netflix series "Hemlock Grove", and the NBC series "Chuck". For any fans of the book series out there worrying about the failures of book to movie adaptations, the author's wife Harriet McDougal will be a consulting producer.

Variety also mentions that McDougal is certainly excited about the situation, as she stated in April of previous year.

Nearly a year ago, it was announced that fantasy author Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time saga was finally coming to TV after some legal hurdles were resolved. "Look for the official announcement coming soon from a major studio".

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time is a story that takes place both in our past and our future. "The Wheel of time" is the latest high fantasy series tapped for TV production following the success of HBO's Game of Thrones.

An adaptation of "The Wheel of Time" novels has been in development in one form or another going back as far as 2000, but the projects mostly never made it past that stage. It aired at 1:30 a.m. with no prior publicity.
