Fiery, deadly wreck snarls Interstate 5 in Los Angeles

One vehicle was beneath the smoldering big rig, while a pickup truck on the other side of the freeway was partially under the back of the semi, according to Sky5 footage.

Trucks and other vehicles are smoldering from a wreck on Interstate 5 north of downtown Los Angeles, with at least one person dead, according to authorities. One of the victims was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the fire department.

Two big rigs and several cars collided on a freeway north of downtown Los Angeles yesterday, sparking an explosion and fire, killing at least one person and forcing authorities to shut down two major arteries into the city for hours.

The crash occurred on a section of I-5 dubbed the Golden State Freeway between landmark Griffith Park and the Los Angeles River.

A tractor-trailer rig, a tanker and four other vehicles ended up in a pile and a raging fire erupted.

Talking later to a small group of reporters, Trump said she was unfazed by Meckel's direct questions in a public forum. The exchange prompted a follow-up question from the moderator about President Donald Trump's attitude to women.

The crash, which forced a full closure of the freeway, was reported at Los Feliz Boulevard about 10:55 a.m. and sparked a massive fire as debris scattered across the southbound freeway lanes. Firefighters from Los Angeles and suburban Glendale have extinguished the flames. A dog also was killed.

Firefighters were checking on conflicting witness reports of one person who was unaccounted for. Lanes on the northbound 5 Freeway began reopening around 2 p.m., though southbound lanes remained closed.

Multiple vehicles were involved in a fiery wreck on the 5 Freeway near Griffith Park on April 25, 2017.

During an afternoon press conference, California Highway Patrol officer Jose Nunez said eight vehicles were involved in the incident - three passenger vehicles, three big rigs, a van and a pickup truck towing a trailer. Investigators believed a semi-truck traveling northbound may have crossed the median into the southbound lanes, striking another big rig and triggering the crash.

Firefighters are pouring water on the wreckage, which involved vehicles on both sides of the divided freeway.
