Holocaust deniers an 'accomplice to horrible evil'

The White House released the proclamation on Monday, which marked Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day, ahead of Trump's planned speech at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

He will then depart the White House en route to the U.S. Capitol to give remarks at and participate in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's National Days of Remembrance.

In January, the President gave a speech for the worldwide Holocaust memorial day, which omitted any mention of the Jewish people and most recently, earlier this month, White House press secretary Sean Spicer had to apologize publicly for saying that Adolf Hitler had not used chemical weapons in the Holocaust.

In his remarks on Tuesday, Trump said, "Those who deny the Holocaust are an accomplice to this terrible evil".

Israel's president is largely a ceremonial head of state who serves as the country's moral compass. All three networks of have a long history of trying to tie the Trump administration to deep-seated anti-Semitism. Schools and community centers hold ceremonies and prayers, certain business shut down, and radio and television stations are filled with documentaries and interviews with Holocaust survivors. "We must never shrink away about telling the truth about evil in our time".

"From being defenceless people, we have become a state with a defensive capacity that is among the strongest in the world", he said.

Trump also drew fire in February for remaining silent for several days over anti-Semitic threats against Jewish community centers, before condemning them as "horrible" and "painful".

"This is my pledge to you", he said.

"We must stamp out prejudice and anti-Semitism everywhere it is found".

The president pledged to confront anti-Semitism and to reaffirmed his commitment to stand with the Jewish people and the state of Israel. He continued, "Yet even today there are those who want to forget the past".

He said the USA would never forget the Holocaust, in which 6 million Jews were killed.

The White House proclamation was sent out on Yom HaShoah, the day of Holocaust remembrance in Israel, and appears to coincide with a Yom HaShoah statement Trump made the day before in a recorded video address to the World Jewish Congress in NY.

Mr Trump's own relations with American Jews had become strained after a testy exchange during a news conference with a reporter for an Orthodox Jewish publication.

Ivanka Trump is President Trump's daughter and a White House adviser; she converted to Judaism before marrying her husband, Jared Kushner, who is also a senior adviser to the president.

Anti-Defamation League CEO Jonathan Greenblatt commented, "It deeply matters that President Trump used the power of his office to stand against anti-Semitism and hate and to honor the memory of the six million Jews and millions of others murdered in Europe".

Stay on topic - This helps keep the thread focused on the discussion at hand. "You can sit and speak with people in different places and have them listen to and look at the material and evidence (of the Holocaust), because denying the Holocaust is basically like paving the way for another Holocaust, and this is something that the free world would not be able to tolerate".
