Star Wars IX plot changed owing to death of Carrie Fisher

LUCASFILMStar Wars 8 The Last Jedi LEAK Luke Skywalker major scene details REVEALED

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says that after mourning the death of Carrie Fisher, the team had to rethink how to move forward.

Fisher's final scenes in the world of Star Wars will come to the big screen in 'The Last Jedi'. This further confirms that Leia Organa won't be part of the Episode IX story-digitally or otherwise.

Director Colin Trevorrow and co-writer Derek Connolly had originally planned to include Leia in Episode 9 until Fisher's sudden passing.

While Fisher's family had granted permission for Disney to use old Fisher footage, Kennedy recently said on Good Morning America that "sadly, Carrie will not be in nine" but that we will at least "see a lot of Carrie in eight". But ultimately, Kennedy and the Episode 9 team made a decision to leave Leia out of the film.

"I think Carrie Fisher's portrayal as Leia in the Star Wars film franchise resonates with many women because she is a fierce, intelligent, charming, and powerful woman", explained Gilmore in January.

But Kennedy said that Carrie will not be in Episode IX, but she will be there in "The Last Jedi".

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15. She added that the creative team left behind their original plans for Leia in Episode IX in light of Fisher's death, saying, "We pretty much started over". The still-untitled Star Wars: Episode IX is set for a set for a May 24, 2019 release.
