Riyad Mahrez slips and Leicester pay the penalty against Manchester City

Leicester had a late penalty ruled out in weird circumstances as Manchester City held on for a 2-1 win on Saturday to move into third place in the English Premier League and close in on Champions League qualification.

Guardiola admits that Leicester were hard opponents but also adds that it was the right decision to have ruled out Riyad Mahrez's penalty "goal" which would have put scores at 2-2.

Mahrez stepped up for the penalty, but slipped as he did so, touching the ball twice -- in breach of the rules -- before his shot beat Willy Caballero.

According to The Sun, Guardiola wants to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes who has a relegation clause included in his contract with Middlesbrough and could be signed for free by any other team in the summer.

A source has told ESPN FC that Zabaleta has chose to leave after failing to secure a two-year deal with City.

City were also without influential midfielder Danny Drinkwater who had been ruled out for the rest of the season with a thigh injury. Christian Fuchs slotted in at centre-back in the German's absence.

FW Sergio Aguero, NR - Brought on for Sterling with 12 minutes to play, Aguero had one good chance to score after dribbling through the Leicester box.

Fernandinho headed wide for City, while Wilfred Ndidi nodded over for the Foxes.

The Citizens though did not have to wait long to seize the initiative.

After Comey, who should Trump fire next? Sean Spicer
You want to talk about them? To which Sanders simply replied: "Correct". "Nobody was in the dark, Jonathan", Sanders countered. Still, it's incredibly untactful to approach this subject in such a manner.

Leicester protested vehemently against the opening goal after Raheem Sterling swung a foot at the ball as it went in, with the England winger standing in an offside position as he did so.

Manchester City's advantage was doubled only seven minutes later following great work from the electric Sane.

Kasper Schmeichel -5: Could not do much about either of the goals, nor was he tested enough.

Goals from David Silva and that Jesus penalty gave City the win, with Toure playing a key role.

There were genuine fears of a repeat of the Palace drubbing as the first half drew to a close but then City snatched a lifeline in spectacular fashion.

Leicester halved the deficit shortly before half-time when Shinji Okazaki hooked a stunning volley into the top-right corner from Marc Albrighton's cross. The Japanese worldwide then struck home a sumptuous volley to give Craig Shakespeare's side hope and end a long personal goal drought.

Faced more defensive duties in the second half, but was an attacking spearhead in the first, creative, cunning and cavalier.

Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare said: "Once he makes the play of the ball, he becomes active". Andy King took his place.

Riyad Mahrez was on top of the world last May.
