North Korea Claims Latest Missile Tested Can Carry a Large Nuclear Warhead

Gold prices snapped a five-day rally and slipped 1.1% on profit-taking its biggest one-day percentage drop since 3 May

NORTH Korea has warned the USA it's in "range for strike" after firing ANOTHER ballistic missile today. Pyongyang's aggressive push to boost its weapons program also makes it one of the Trump administration's most urgent foreign policy worries, though Washington has struggled to settle on a policy.

North Korea said Monday it had successfully tested a new type of rocket in its latest missile launch, as analysts said it showed an unprecedented range that brought USA bases in the Pacific within reach. Kim "gave the scientists and technicians in the field of rocket research the order to continuously develop more precise and diversified nukes and nuclear striking means", KCNA said.

The KCNA said that the missile reached an altitude of 2,111.5 kilometers in an indication that it was a new type of intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM).

South Korea's military said it could not yet verify the North's claims.

The missile flew for about 30 minutes, travelling about 800km (500m) before landing in the Sea of Japan, according to Tokyo.

Japan's defense minister says the missile test-fired by North Korea might have been a new type given the altitude and duration of its flight. It is only a matter of time before North Korea also conducts another, more powerful nuclear test in its relentless march towards achieving a strategic nuclear deterrence that would provide it with the leverage to extort its neighbors and threaten the USA mainland at will.

To actually deliver such a missile, Pyongyang would have to have advanced technology in both miniaturizing its nuclear weapons as well as in protecting a nuclear warhead from being destroyed upon re-entry in the earth's atmosphere.

"More importantly", he added, it "may represent a substantial advance to developing an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM)".

However, the US President has also said he is open to talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un over Pyongyang's nuclear and missile programmes. The launch is a direct challenge to the new South Korean president elected four days ago and comes as U.S., Japanese and European navies gather for joint war games in the Pacific.

North Korea's missile launch Sunday came at a highly embarrassing time for China, its chief ally and economic partner.

"I want to confirm that we are categorically against the expansion of the club of nuclear powers, including with the Korean peninsula and North Korea", said Putin, who said any such move would be "harmful and dangerous".

The Piazzas noted that no one representing the university of the fraternity attended their son's wake or funeral services. Call 911 At one point one of the new fraternity members panics and urges someone to call 911 but is told to leave.

In Seoul, some citizens expressed frustration.

During the past couple of years, North Korea has said it would hold talks with the United States - as long as denuclearization was not on the agenda, a deal-breaker for Washington. South Korea and Japan have been watching this situation closely with us.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has condemned North Korea's latest missile launch as "dangerous" but warned against "intimidating" Pyongyang.

China remains one of North Korea's only allies and is responsible for much of the heavily sanctioned nation's economy.

No sitting U.S. president has ever met with the leader of North Korea while in power, and the idea is extremely controversial.

Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley, appearing on ABC's "This Week", said Kim Jong Un's attitude needs to change before President Trump would consider meeting with him.

The projectile launch comes two weeks after a ballistic missile test that South Korean and U.S. officials said failed.

The U.S. military said it detected the launch, and that flight data indicated it was not an intercontinental ballistic missile, or ICBM. But if it was sacked at a standard trajectory, it would have a range of at least 4,000 km (2,500 miles), experts said.

North Korea fired the missile from a site northwest of Pyongyang, according to South Korea's military.

South Korea has said it was unaware of what North Korea was referring to, while the Central Intelligence Agency and the White House declined to comment on the May 6 statement from North Korea's Ministry of State Security. President Trump has already sent a battle fleet to the South China sea, off the Korean peninsula, and that fleet is now being joined by another nuclear submarine armed with cruise missiles.

The launch came as troops from the U.S., Japan and two European nations gather near Guam for drills that are partly a message to North Korea.
