Battle of the Sexes Trailer with Emma Stone & Steve Carell Arrives

The first trailer, released today, previews their recreation of the iconic 1973 tennis match between King, ranked at World Number 1, and Riggs, a retired Grand Slam Wimbledon champion, for a $100,000 prize.

One of the most famous tennis matches in history is coming to life on the big screen, with Emma Stone and Steve Carell facing off across the net.

There are two striking things about this trailer.

Check out the Battle of the Sexes trailer below. Oscar victor Emma Stone (La La Land) stars as tennis legend Billie Jean King and Oscar nominee Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) plays Bobby Riggs, with the first trailer showing the lead-up to their legendary 1973 tennis match.

What Trump said about sharing 'facts' with Russians
The tweets come a day after a Washington Post report claimed President Trump shared classified information with Russian officials. The disclosure also risks harming his credibility with USA partners around the world ahead of his first overseas trip.

The huge cast features Andrea Riseborough, Sarah Silverman, Bill Pullman, Alan Cumming, Austin Stowell, Jessica Mcnamee, Natalie Morales, Fred Armisen, Martha MacIsaac, Mickey Sumner, Bridey Elliott, Eric Christian Olsen, Wallace Langham, Matt Malloy and Elisabeth Shue. They're all working under the direction of Little Miss Sunshine and Ruby Sparks filmmaking duo Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris with a script from Slumdog Millionaire writer Simon Beaufoy.

Battle of the Sexes' official synopsis continues, explaining that King was "trapped in the media glare", while noting the match's participants "were on opposite sides of a binary argument, but off-court each was fighting more personal and complex battles". King would break ground as a pioneer for women's equality, and while Riggs struggled with his off-court demons (namely gambling), King had to come to terms with her sexuality.

Battle of the Sexes swings into theaters September 22.
