Disruption Continues Following Friday's NHS Cyber Attack

A spokesman for North Middlesex University Hospital said: "Our priority was to support our NHS partners who had been affected by the cyber attack and to ensure all patients received high quality care".

NHS Bolton CCG said it could not confirm how local services had been affected, adding that the incident was being dealt with at a national level.

It comes as NHS organisations across the country are braced for a possible recurrence of Friday's cyberattack as staff return to work.

Mr Ashworth told Sky News: "I think the Government's response has been chaotic, to be frank".

"NCSC and NCA are working with Europol and other global partners to make sure we all collect the right evidence, which we need to do to make sure we have the right material to find out who has done this and we go after them.

It was clear warnings were given to hospital trusts but this is not something that focused on attacking the NHS here on the United Kingdom".

Following a meeting of the Government's Cobra contingencies committee, Home Secretary Amber Rudd said more than a million patients had been treated in the course of Monday. Health secretary Jeremy Hunt has confirmed there has not been a second wave of cyber attacks on NHS trusts since the attacks on Friday.

"We take cyber security seriously", she said.

She told Sky News that trusts had been warned to upgrade their systems and that she was "disappointed" many had not done so.

Experts urged organizations and companies to immediately update older Microsoft operating systems, such as Windows XP, with a patch released by the company.

However, a poll on Monday found three-quarters of Britons thought the NHS was in a bad condition and more than 50 percent blamed the Conservatives for its current woes.

On Sunday evening seven acute hospital Trusts continued to experience major disruption and were diverting patients away from A&E for a third consecutive day.

More than 200,000 victims in 150 countries have been registered so far, with warnings the impact could spread further on Monday.

Officials at the Ministry of Defence played down fears that its four Trident-missile carrying submarines, which use the same software which left the NHS exposed, were vulnerable to attack.

Some routine surgery and GP appointments were also cancelled across the NHS in the aftermath.

The Mid Essex Hospital Trust, which runs St Peter's Hospital in Maldon, Broomfield Hospital, St Michael's Hospital in Braintree and Christchurch in Chelmsford, worked across the weekend to get affected systems back online.

If a charity has fallen victim to cyber-attack, it should be reported to Action Fraud by calling 0300 123 2040, or visiting ActionFraud.
