Mets: Matt Harvey Will Return To Mound Friday At Milwaukee

Associated Press

Mets pitcher Matt Harvey was suspended for three days the team said Sunday

A weird season for the New York Mets took another hairpin turn Sunday morning when the team announced it had suspended right-hander Matt Harvey three days without pay for a violation of team rules. This came as a surprise to everyone, as there had not been any rumors of any issues between the team and their starter, at least to that point.

Naturally, details began to leak out. Things have been further complicated because Harvey, who last pitched May 2, reportedly plans to file a grievance against the Mets. T.J. Rivera walked (!) with two outs to bring Jay Bruce to the plate with a chance to cut the lead in half, but a line out to Marcell Ozuna in left ended the Mets' only real threat of the game. Obviously, this suspension has been a long time coming. Watching the Mets and Harvey struggle to get along is like watching two friends in a stale, bitter relationship tough it out only because their lease isn't up for another two years. Something needs to be done. If he continues to pull of stunts like this, Harvey might be shown the door.

White House fails to deny Donald Trump leaked classified information to Russian Federation
He added that he wants the House intelligence committee fully briefed on what, if anything, was shared with the Russian officials. We can perhaps take McMaster at his word that Trump discussed no "sources or methods" in his meeting with Lavrov and Kislyak.

Harvey has reportedly filed a grievance in response to the suspension, which is a pretty clear indication that the relationship between Harvey and the Mets is as damaged as it has ever been, perhaps beyond fix. Harvey was 4-10 with a 4.86 ERA in 14 starts last season before undergoing surgery to fix thoracic outlet syndrome. As it appears that the Mets did not hear from Harvey on Saturday, and he just did not appear at the park that day, the lack of communication is not a surprise. He has one-year left on his contract after the 2017 season. He didn't play on Sunday, and the Mets had him test the thumb on Monday, leading them to believe a stint on the DL is unnecessary, per Zach Braziller of the New York Post. The 28-year-old has been disappointing on the mound as well this season with a 5.14 ERA through his first six starts. Instead, they seemed hell-bent on sending Harvey a message by embarrassing him in public.
