The Guardians of Galaxy 2: James Gunn Tease a Different End

Weekend Box Office

After two massive hit films, one might think coming back for a third would be a no-brainer.

While this mistake is certainly something small and can be explained in any number of ways, it is interesting to have James Gunn admit that he made a mistake with that seemingly throw away line from Stan Lee. Still there? OK! At the end of the film, Yondu (Michael Rooker) sacrifices himself to save Peter Quill and becomes the real hero of the film, a denouement that we nearly did not have.

The latest USA box office estimates have arrived, showing that the movie made $63 million this weekend, according to Entertainment Weekly. Michael Rooker, for all the crap I give him, is one of my closest friends in the world and the last thing I wanted to do was to make a movie without Michael Rooker in the future.

Britain's Labour Party to launch 'radical, responsible' election manifesto
Tuesday's launch of Labour's manifesto will be more low-key than usual because most of its contents were leaked last week. A £300bn price tag for this policy would leave future generations paying the bill for decades to come".

It was a weekend when everyone thought the big budget film King Arthur Legend of The Sword was going to dominate, Guardians of The Galaxy Vol 2 still took the crown and comedy Snatched come in highest on Mothers Day weekend.

Let me tell you, there was nothing harder for me than the choice to kill Yondu in this movie. [Killing Yondu was] the hardest choice I've ever had to make from a storytelling perspective. I wrote a bunch of treatments where Yondu did not die. "We needed to have a pushing force, was is the Sovereign, because really the thing about Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is its really and independent film in the body of a spectacle film". And I realized I was being dishonest. Director James Gunn has been answering a lot of questions about the film's story and production.During a Facebook Live Q&A session, Gunn was asked why he made Ego the Living Planet to be Peter Quill's father instead of J'son of Spartax, the king of a vast planetary system in the cosmos. Vol. 3 has a ways to go.
